Battlesystems Invite You to Meet the Urmeck

A box for the "Maladum" tabletop game expansion titled "Dominion of Urghal" features a dynamic illustration of a chaotic battle scene set in a dark, stone-walled environment. Various creatures, including menacing Urmeck, are depicted engaging in combat, with a central figure wielding a weapon amidst the fray. The title and subtitle are prominently displayed on the front, emphasizing the expansion's focus on the new Urmeck faction.

Body

Heads up, citizens of Enveron! You’ve got a pest control problem.

Newly revealed on the Battlesystem blog, the Urmeck are new faction for the Maladum tabletop game. These ‘savage, war-forged creatures’ have been designed to present players with a new kind of threat ‘unlike anything encountered before’.

A diverse array of miniatures representing the Urmeck faction from the Maladum tabletop game is displayed on a grassy terrain. The scene includes various creatures, such as smaller Dregs and larger Brutes, alongside Ripclaws ridden by Dregs. The miniatures feature intricate details, showcasing their savage designs and unique poses, set against a backdrop of wooden structures and overgrown foliage.

This first look suggests the Urmeck present a number of different threats, ranging from swarming vermin to towering juggernauts. The weakest of these are known as Dregs. Described as ‘the runts of their brutal society’, these measly creatures rely on overwhelming numbers and animal cunning to overcome their enemies.

An assault by Dregs is supported by Wretches. The ‘primary foot soldiers’ of an Urmeck host, Wretches are ‘fast, brutal, and constantly on the move.’ The only thing worse than a Dreg is a Dreg riding a Ripclaw. Whilst these hulking creatures are not ‘the fastest enemy in the Urmeck faction’, they are ridden by packs of Dregs thirsty to leap from their mount and into thick of battle. Ripclaw miniatures have been designed to represent this transition, coming as they do with removable saddles which allow players to ‘swap out a fully laden saddle for an empty one’

In contrast to rapid Riplclaws, Brutes are the Urmeck’s big hitters. Described as ‘towering monsters of sinew and bone’, these monsters are strong enough to turn most adventurers in a paste with a single blow. Worse still, they also soak up punishment like a sponge, ensuring they’re going to be in your party’s grill for an uncomfortably long time.

The Urmeck are not without allies, with the Arboreant being a prime example. A ‘twisted mess of tree roots given life by dark magic’, an Arboreant has a reach like a Tyson Fury and hits with the power of Deontay Wilder. And, whilst Arboreants are slow, don’t think you can just run away from one of these things; they can entangle you with their twisting branches!

This article is just the first look at the Urmeck, with Battlesystems promising us not only further articles on their magic, gameplay and mounted characters, but also two new campaigns.

See the Battlesystems website for more details.

A group of grotesque, humanoid creatures known as Dregs from the Urmeck faction is depicted, showcasing their menacing features. They have pale, grayish skin, sharp teeth, and large ears, dressed in tattered, earthy-toned clothing that suggests a savage lifestyle. The Dregs are armed with makeshift weapons and are positioned in a chaotic, aggressive stance, emphasizing their role as overwhelming foot soldiers in the Maladum tabletop game.

Battle Systems adds the Urmeck to Maladum. Reminds me of my cousins in Dudley - odd names, weird behaviour, and the big ones turn up when the little ones start losing. #Maladum #BattleSystems #Miniatures #TabletopGaming #midlands #wargaming
