Dan Verssen Games have launched their new crowdfunding campaign.
This new Kickstarter is seeking funds for a brand new boardgame. Entitled Merville Battery, this new game recreates the 9th Parachute Battalion, 6th Airborne Division’s assault on the German Merville artillery battery in the initial stages of the D-Day landings of 6th June, 1944.
Players assume control of the Airborne forces and must disable the German artillery lest the British forces landing at Sword Beach will be subjected to a devastating artillery barrage as they come ashore. However, they will be subjected to small and heavy arms fire whilst trying to navigate mines and barbed wire.
The mission will not end once the guns are disabled as the paratroopers will then have to get their themselves—and their wounded comrades—out of danger.
This new campaign includes the core Merville Battery game, a German upgrade expansion and a historical soldiers counters and battle write-up expansion.
This is Dan Verssen’s 46th Kickstarter campaign … and that’s the first time I’ve used such a high number in that context. He’s been designing games since he left school and has written more than 60 games for grandees such as Wizards of the Coast, Avalon Hill, AEG and more. He and his wife have also published more over 200 games and expansions since they launched Dan Verssen Games in 2008.
This campaign is already fully funded and unlocking stretch goals; these include additional cards and a mounted gameboard. Further stretch goals include custom dice and variant cards.
The Merville Battery campaign ends on Monday, January 26th at 8:17 PM UTC.
