Dan Verrsen Games returns to the popular Warfighter series of card wargames. Having covered the Europe, Pacific, Mediterranean and North African theatres in previous installments, it’s now time to turn Eastwards in Warfighter WWII Eastern Front.

Warfighter WWII Eastern Front recreates the brutal skirmishes fought across the vast Soviet battlefields of World War II, where Soviet Red Army and German forces clashed for shattered cities, strategic strongholds, and hard-won ground in some of the harshest climactic conditions of the war. You will face fierce resistance from enemy troops, but the battlefield itself, from deep snow and choking mud to bitter cold and broken terrain, can prove equally deadly.

The game, in which you command the Soviet forces against the German invaders, plays for 1-6 players, offering you solo or cooperative play where you, and your friends, compete against the system to complete squad level combat missions in the Eastern front of the Soviet Union.

A key part of the game is squad building and mission planning with you deciding which soldier(s) should go on the mission, and (within the missions resource limits) what weapons, gear and skills they have to give them the best chance of completing the mission objective. You build your soldiers, select your gear, and head out on the mission. Missions usually take 30-60+ minutes.

As a solitaire wargame, the game’s hostile response system handles all the enemy decisions and actions which will oppose your squad and thwart your mission plans. You will have to respond to the unexpected events and hostile attacks, as well as challenging weather and terrain, to make it to the objective and complete the victory conditions. The crowdfunding campaign is offering a core set, as well as eight expansions which allow you to extend gameplay to include more armed forces and battles, as well as adding critical hits.

The core set has everything you need to play the game. 240+ cards (covering Soldiers, Hostiles, Missions, Objectives, Locations, Actions, Gear, Events and Zampolit), d6 and d10 dice, counter sheets, tactical board and the rulebook. The players command the Soviet forces against the game-controlled German hostiles and events, generated through a sequence of card and counter draws.

The expansions sets available through the crowdfunding campaign are:

PENAL BATTALTION EXPANSION

Formed during the darkest years of the war, Soviet Penal Battalions were composed of disgraced soldiers and wanton criminals sent to the front to reddem themselves through combat. Thrown into some of the most dangerous sectors of the Eastern Front, they were often tasked with brutal asssaults, hopeless missions, and near-suicidal operations where losses were expected to be severe. In desperate battles from ruined cities to mine-strewn defences, they served under harsh discipline and grim necessity to reclaim their names and honour.

SOVIET PARTISANS EXPANSION

As the German occupation tightened its grip on the Soviet homeland, Soviet resistance fighters emerged from among soldiers cut off behind the lines, local communists, and defiant civilians determined to resist the invader. Amid harsh conditions and constant danger, Soviet partisan detachments waged a relentless campaign of raids, ambushes, and sabotage against German invaders, striking supply lines and garrisons. Sustained by local support and intimate knowledge of the terrain, their hit-and-run tactics became a persistent and formindale force behind enemy lines.

SOVIET AIRBORNE EXPANSION

Conceived in the 1930s, the Soviet Airborne troops were one of the largest forces of its kind by the start of WWII. They participated in some of the biggest combat parachute jumps, as well as serving as elite infantry divisions in some of the most desperate operations in the war.

EASTERN WINTER EXPANSION

As the war on the Eastern Front deepened into a brutal struggle for survival, the Soviet winter descended with merciless force upon soldiers and hostiles alike. Snow-choked roads, frozen rivers, and blinding blizzards turned the battlefield into a hostile wilderness where endurance became as vital as firepower. In the midst of this unforgiving cold, armies had to content not only with the enemy but with frost, exhaustion, and inhospitable terrain.

SOVIET WINTER VEHICLES EXPANSION

In the frozen crucible of the Eastern Front, Soviet tanks and vehicles rumbled through frost-rimed forests, snow-choked roads, and smoked ruins under punishing steel-grey skies. From rugged T-34s and KV-1s to lend-lease Churchills and Emchas, these machines carried men and firepower across the icy front, battling German resistance, mechanical strain, and the merciless cold itself.

PEENEMUNDE EXPANSION

As WWII entered its most desperate and destructive phase, the remote shores of Peenemunde became the cradle of Germany’s secret weapons program. Shrouded in secrecy and menace, this sprawling research compex was home to the development of the experimental rockets and flying bombs intended to strike terror into enemy homelands. Amid test stands, launch pads, and underground facilities, teams of scientists, engineers, and soldiers worked to forge this radical technology into an instrument of war.
