Instant gratification! 10-Days of selling on Vinted

I have sold a plethora of personal items of both the geeky and non-geeky variety on Vinted over the past 3 years, and I like to think that our experience on eBay as a business in some ways translates to being a ‘savvy’ Vinted seller. Here’s a few of my experiences about selling on Vinted.

• Customers expect to pay less on Vinted - I certainly do when I’m a customer.

• If you sell something for £10, you get the full £10 (no seller fees apply), however sellers need to be mindful that the buyer will be paying an admin fee and postage on top, so your asking price needs to adjust for that.

• Vinted is often an impulse shopping experience. Most buyers will sort by newest items first and I’ve generally experienced that most of my sales come within the first 2 days of listings. If buyers are using a broad search time like “board games” and sorting by newest - the Vinted App will only show the most recent 200 or so listings, so your listing is essentially dead and stagnant if they’re getting older than a day on the platform. A price drop will send an alert to anyone who has favourited your item to try and catch some attention after the initial listing.

• One of my favourite parts of shopping on Vinted is the experience of bundling to save postage, and to try and get a further discount. As a seller, you can set automatic bundle discounts eg. 10% for 2 items, 15% for 3 items etc. and I always have bundle discounts on. What this means for me when listing is that I try to list lots of items in the same category at the same time so that someone browsing has the opportunity to look at what else I’m selling and maybe build a bundle.

• Buyers ask for big discounts on Vinted. Vinted allows you to make offers as cheeky at 40% off and many buyers will start there to see if you’ll take it. You can counter-offer and perhaps come to a deal. In general, I think that half of my Vinted sales come from offers rather than sales at my full asking price. You might consider building a little bit of buffer into your asking price if you want reasonable offers.

It’s been a few months since I’ve sold anything on the platform, so let’s put some of these ideas to the test. I’m listing 10 items in the board game and tabletop roleplaying categories - all are pre-owned but in very good condition and complete. I’ll start by listing them at full market value, based upon research of eBay sold listings. Let’s see if they sell quickly, if I need to take offers or if there’s no interest at all.

Within 30 minutes, I received offers on 5 out of the 10 items, with four of them being a full 40% off. In the next 48 hours I sold 4 out of the 10 items. After that, there was no activity on the listings at all, and since relisting the items is against Vinted T&Cs those items will now just languish on Vinted until someone either checks out my profile specifically, or maybe searches very specifically for my game titles.

Once you’ve made your sales, you can print your pre-paid label, or choose a digital label, and drop it off with the appropriate courier. You can customise your account settings to limit courier options to ones that you trust or ones that have a drop-off point that’s convenient for you. I choose to limit to just one courier so I don’t need to drive around to various locations based on the whims of my buyers on any given day!

Vinted sales come quickly if you price competitively (bearing in mind the fees your buyer has to pay). With the ease of listing and simplicity of postage, it’s a great option for quick sales, but you might struggle to sell your less popular titles and may need to employ some “bargain basement” pricing.
