There’s still time to enjoy New Gamemaster Month!
Running throughout January, this long-running initiative encourages new or lapsed gamemasters to take the plunge and start running roleplaying games. It offers ‘Inspiration, advice, and a step-by-step process that guides prospective GMs up to and through their first game’. The programme revolves around a month-long seminar ‘in the form of twice-weekly posts’; each of these guide newbies through the next stage and then encourages participants to apply those lessons with a variety of ‘quick, enjoyable activities that actually get you ready to run your first game’. The programme is also designed to avoid being too cerebral and, instead, leans toward easy-to-follow, hands-on seminars. It also promises participants will soon be running RPG sessions ‘without a hitch and having a great time doing it!’
The programme also enjoys support from an impressive array of RPG publishers, ensuring participants can choose a genre or game with which they feel the most comfortable. These include—but are by no means limited to—games such as Dungeon Crawl Classics, Trail of Cthulhu, the endlessly versatile Savage Worlds, and my personal favourite, Magical Kitties Save the Day. And no, I’m not joking.
So, what are you waiting for? Get yo ass to the New Gamemaster Month website and start gamemastering games!

It’s been almost forty years since Ereb Altor was first introduced to the world in the Swedish Sinkadus magazine. It became the first major campaign world for the Dragonbane RPG and, thanks to Helmgast AB and Astrolab Game Studios, will be seeing an English-language release later this year after a crowdfunding campaign due this summer.

The Spiel des Jahres (Game of the Year) awards were first created in 1978, celebrating the best in board and card game design. Even being nominated for the award can bring in a massive sales boost for the games, with the winner often selling 500,000+ copies. It is one of the few awards in the games industry that has a major effect on sales and exposure. The awards, and nominations, are usually covered in the mainstream news in Germany.
