The Lexicon of Monsters Now Live on Kickstarter

The Lexicon of Monsters is now live on Kickstarter.

Launched today by Yellowbyte Workshop, this new campaign focuses on the titular collection of weird and wonderful creatures. A menagerie of monsters, this new book includes 150 original creatures for use in 5e, all of which have been ‘handcrafted with deep lore, balanced mechanics and breathtaking human-made art’. Each of these is intended to present player characters with memorable challenges and to transform ‘encounters into legends’.

These monsters, ‘drawn from myth, nightmare and forgotten folklore’, all boast ‘Balanced, story-driven stat blocks [and] Evocative lore and haunting illustrations’. They also feature not only loot tables, behavioural guides and encounter hooks designed ‘to inspire unforgettable adventures’ but also lair details and environmental effects.

Encounters with these monsters are made even more memorable by the book’s ‘Evolving Combat Behaviors’; these bestow creatures with ‘shifting states, triggered instincts, or escalating rage phases’ which alter the creatures’ behaviours in an organic and believable manner. There’s even more bad news for adventurers: many of the monsters included in this lexicon ‘counter player actions through unique reactions’. Examples include ‘spell-interrupting Synaptic Snaps, ambush-triggered Lurching Slams, shadow-jumping teleports, and more’. These counters serve to make each encounter even more dangerous as ‘monsters stay dangerous every round, not just on their turn’.

The Lexicon of Monsters is the seventh Kickstarter by Yellowbyte Workshop. Previous campaigns include Master of Worlds: The Ultimate GM Guide, Galactic Pantheon: Gods of the Future and Mystic Reforged: Mysteries Beyond the Veil.
