Shadowdark Bestiary by Inkwell Ideas

Rock & Roar! is a bestiary of 54 new monsters inspired by classic rock songs and bands. The concepts of most creatures are riffs based on a band name or song title such as Eyes Without a Face, Freebird, and Twisted Sisters. Each monster’s actions and lore may pay further homage by alluding to lyrics or other aspects of a band.

Rock and Roar! has two versions, one with stats for the Old-School Essentials RPG (a faithful clone of B/X Dungeons and Dragons) and another version for the Shadowdark RPG (a streamlined, old-school spin on 5E D&D).

This is the Shadowdark version.

Not only does each creature have game stats, but each includes a short origin or ecology (like the old Dragon Ecology articles) and a chart or two of useful tools and options for that creature (inspired by The Monster Overhaul). 

Each creature gets a full page so we have room for original art, the stats, origin/ecology, and extra charts.

But wait, there’s more!

Also included is a setting map for the “Land of Confusion” with locations like: Stairway to Heaven, Casbah, The Great Wide Open, Paradise City, and many more.

Plus we’ve made magic items with concepts based on Rolling Stones, Message in a Bottle, Lucky Star, and 13 other classic rock references.

Finally, there are eight mini-quests (2-4 pages each) using most of the monsters in the book!
