Heiho, Let's Go!

A dynamic illustration showcases a chaotic battle scene from Sengoku-era Japan, featuring armored samurai and ashigaru warriors engaged in combat. Prominent figures include a horse-mounted samurai wielding a spear, flanked by foot soldiers in traditional armor, all set against a backdrop of waving banners and a hilly landscape. The title "HEIHO" is displayed at the top, with "MASS BATTLE SAMURAI GAME" prominently featured at the bottom.

Wargames Atlantic and Helion bring us ‘Heiho: The Art of War’, a collaboration bringing nearly a thousand 10mm hard plastic figures to your tabletop for recreating the massive battles of Sengoku-era Japan. The box set includes 988 miniatures across eight frames of Ashigaru, four of Samurai, and two of Command units, alongside bases, dice, tokens, and the complete rulebook. Designed by Pauli Kidd - a 20-year student of Katori Shinto Ryu (sword fighting to you and me) and author of numerous works on Japanese history and culture and big name RPGs - the rules accommodate armies ranging from 20,000 to 100,000 warriors and support famous engagements like Kawanakajima and Sekigahara.

Wow! That's a Whole Heap of Chaos!

Are you sitting comfortably? I hope so, because this could be a long post...

Games Workshop have announced what they describe as "the return of the warriors of Chaos to the Old World", and boy, they ain't kidding; this new post on their community pages heralds the release of "a Battalion box; an Arcane Journal [...] 25 separate kits returning in plastic, metal and resin; two weapon upgrade sets and a Made to Order release."

The nucleus of this new onslaught is formed by a Warriors of Chaos battalion box. It includes 32 Chaos Warriors, 10 Chaos Knights and two deadly Chaos Chariots (which can also be built as Gorebeast Chariots). A new transfer sheet which boasts a whopping 621 decals is also included.

This battalion box can be expanded by a slew of re-releases. These include the return of the venerable Chaos Lord on Manticore, the Champion of Chaos, the Chaos Sorcerer, the Chaos Chimera, the Dragon Ogres, and the Chaos Warriors. All of these will be released in plastic, as will Halberds and Great Weapons weapon upgrade sets for the plastic Chaos Warriors. Because, y'know, they aren't dangerous enough already...

Do you want more? Okay, then GW have more re-released metals with your name on 'em, including the Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount, the Chaos Sorcerer on Chaos Steed, a Champion of Chaos, the Chaos Ogres and Chaos Ogres Command, the Chaos Trolls, and the Chosen and Chosen Command.

If resin kits are more your thing, then you have remastered versions of all your favourites to look forward to, including the Hellcannon, the Dragon Ogre Shaggoth, the Skin Wolves, the Warpfire Dragon, and the Gigantic Spawn of Chaos.

Want a cherry on top of the Chaos shake? Then how about Made to Order metal returnees the Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Chaos Steed, the Daemon Prince with Sword, the Daemon Prince with Axe, and the classic Chaos Spawn? You can also look forward to and a new set of dice, a Warriors of Chaos Arcane Journal and a reference card pack.

This is all great news for you Chaos players, right? But what about the rest of you? Are you worried yet? Are you having flashbacks of your arse being kicked by a seething host of mutated murder magnates? Then I have even worse news: this lot is only the first wave! A terrifying tranche of Chaos marauders, knights, chariots and warhounds is promised for later in the year...
