Body
Wargames often focus on battles, commanders and the struggle to control territory, but Dan Verssen Games’ Medic! takes a different approach. As opposed to liberating France, fighting in the hedgerows, or tank warfare on the Eastern Front, Medic! turns its attention to a different part of the Second World War - the work of treating wounded soldiers.
Described as a solitaire card game of “triage and treatment”, the game sees you take on the role of a medic on the European battlefield, where the central challenge is care under pressure. Medic! propels the people treating the wounded to the forefront who are, often in wargames, either completely overlooked or, at best, supporting characters.
Medics in Tabletop Warfare…
Though rare, there has been the occasional game that has dealt with combat medics in the past as the central theme. Field Hospital, first published in 2010 by Diamond K Games, was a competitive dice selection game set in the Korean War, in which players gather scarce medical supplied and treat patients before their wounds prove fatal. Casting the net wider there are a few more games that deal with medics in disaster zones, such as the 2016 solitaire game After the Disaster: Triage which is set in the aftermath of an earthquake, or the more recent 2021 We Care: A Grizzled Game by BoardM Factory/CMON which dealt with hospitals being overwhelmed by a global pandemic - part of the proceeds of the games sales went to healthcare NGO’s fighting Covid-19 at the time.
DVG’s Medic
The Western Front is the main focus for DVG’s Medic!, where you take on the role of an US Army Combat Medic deployed to the heart of battle, armed with only your surgical kit and raw courage. The main game comes with ten historical scenarios ranging from the arid heights of Tunisia to struggles on the Western Front. The Kickstarter campaign is also offering three expansion packs…

Medic! Airbrone Division: Introduces the chaos, isolation, and adrenaline of vertical envelopment. Emulating the historic drops of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions during D-Day, Operation Market Garden, and Operation Varsity, this expansion strips the Medic of their reliable starting gear, forcing them to brave enemy patrols to recover scattered supply crates while treating casualties under the cover of darkness. Includes 6 counters and 48 cards.

Medic! The Forgotten Front: Gothic Line brings players to the rugged, mud-slicked Apennine Mountains of Italy (1944-45). Medics face a multinational theater featuring American, British, Brazilian (FEB), and Italian Partisan forces. Success here requires fighting steep vertical inclines, managing temperamental mule trains, and treating the shattering psychologiocal effects of prolonged artillery bombardments. Includes 12 counters and 40 cards.

Medic! Urban Front: Civilians in the Crossfire thrusts players into the brutal, block-by-block siege wwarfare of ruined European cities like Aachen, Caen, and Ortona. This expansion introduces a profound moral dimension to the core gameplay loop. Medics are no longer just managing military triage; they must now brave falling rubble and disrupted supply lines to treat local populations trapped in the ruins, where a failure of ethics can cost you the mission. Includes 6 counters and 48 cards.
DVG - Medic! is currently live on Kickstarter and is running until Monday 12th October 2026.
