Classic British Wargame Cry Havoc Remastered

Cry Havoc was a classic British wargame released by Standard Games in 1981. Designed by Gary Chalk and Tony Webster, the game was played using cardboard counters representing 13th century peasants, sergeants, bills, men-at-arms, and knights and featured one-on-one combat. The game was a hit and launched a whole series of games such as Siege (1983), Samurai Blades (1984), Outremer (1985), and Viking Raiders (1987), as well as dozens of additional maps and a fantasy version called Dark Blades (1986).

The game has kept an avid fan base over the years, particularly in Britain and France where the game had been translated and released by Eurogames and Jeux Rexton. This continued popularity led another French company Historic One to release a new range of games that used the rules and same style of maps and counters, starting with Guiscard (2013). Historic One’s games became known as The Norman Saga and were intended to fill the gap for those wanting to play Cry Havoc but could no longer get a copy.

Fast forward to 2026 and one of the original designers and artists, Gary Chalk, has teamed up with Footsore Miniatures & Games to bring us a remastered edition of Cry Havoc, featuring new artwork.

The remastered Cry Havoc is launching on Kickstarter in April and you can follow the campaign on it’s pre-launch page.
