A Dark Conspiracy Is Coming This Summer...

Mongoose Publishing have announced that the all-new Dark Conspiracy RPG will be coming out this summer. They announced last April that they had acquired all rights to the classic game that was originally published by Game Designers’ Workshop in 1991, and have been busily developing a brand new iteration of the game over the last twelve months.

Dark Conspiracy: The Unseen War is a modern-day horror RPG that sees players take on roles as Operatives, hand picked by a mysterious organisation to defend the Earth from the deepest terrors beyond imagination. The problem being is that no one really knows much.

The Operatives don’t know the motives or goals of the organisation providing them with the information and technology, and the organisation doesn’t know the nature of the Dark Minions they’re hunting, or what they are really capable of. And no one knows who else has begun to learn of the Dark Minions and the threat they pose.

What is evident is that no one else must learn anyting about the Dark Dimensions. They are simply too powerful to let people harness their technology and supernatural energies. Inevitably someone would bring ruin upon the Earth and enslave huaminity to their whims, which would all too soon be subverted by the Dark Minions and their masters. Hmm… perhaps there are those who have already started the process…

The conspiracy must be built. And it must be kept.

Mongoose have approached the game from a vaeriety of angles and have provided ways for you to run your game, and the Operatives, in a manner that’d you’d prefer. You could run them as a well-funded invesatgive group a little like the X-Files, or a military-style unit engaging in special operations, or as someone who has been exposed to, and learnt a bit about, a Dark Minion event and is using other civilians to investigate it all. You could run it as a long-running Cold War style espionage campaign, a light-hearted war against the arkness, or a string of morally ambiguous choices, or a mix of styles to suit your players.

The rules have been built using the core Traveller engine, but tweaked to better serve the world of dark Conspiracy. Mongoose will be announcing more about specific rules and systems in the run up to the release of the game, as well as more infomation about the nature of missions Operatives might undertake, the presence of Empathic powers that has started to be found amongst humanity, cults that knowingly (or otherwise) serve the Dark Minions, and more.

Dark Conspiracy has undergone several editions over the years but Mongoose are bringing a fresh take on the game, not least in planning to run it in three different periods, reflecting the emergence, battle and aftermath of the Dark Minions.
