Body
Psychic spies, genetically enhanced soldiers and a secret struggle over humanity’s future collide in Titan Effect Zero, now crowdfunding on BackerKit from Knight Errant Media.
Created by Christian L. Nommay, Titan Effect blends international espionage with biopunk science fiction and superhuman abilities. Its near-future Earth looks familiar on the surface, but behind the scenes, psychic operatives and bio-augmented soldiers fight a clandestine war. Criminal organisations, private military companies and secret societies employ these extraordinary people to pursue power and, in some cases, determine the next stage of human evolution.

Titan Effect is a genre-bending universe that blends biopunk, spy thriller, and superhero. Players are plunged into a world brimming with conspiracies, secret organizations, dangerous bioengineered creatures, and psychic phenomena—a world where the boundary between "good" and "evil" is blurred…
In this game, you play a covert operative with special abilities, working for the international clandestine organization known as SPEAR. You are charged to carry out perilous missions worldwide and fighting dangerous creatures and insidious organizations, while trying to keep your humanity. Some of you are here to make a difference, others to taste adventure, while others have nowhere else to go.
This is your story!
Players enter this conflict as operatives of SPEAR, the Special Executive Assault and Recon. SPEAR ia an international clandestine organisation that recruits agents from different nationalities and backgrounds to investigate and neutralise biological and psychic threats. SPEARS recruits and personnel have varied reasons for joining: idealism, a hunger for adventure, or simply the need to find somewhere they belong.

The setting’s central struggle concerns who gets to control humanity’s future. With antagonists including the Olympians, whose ambitions involve controlling biological evolution, and ARES, a powerful private military company specialising in weapons and biotechnology that serves as their armed wing. Espionage consequently involves threats that conventional intelligence agencies would struggle to contain.
For the operatives themselves, extraordinary abilities also raise questions about identity. Titan Effect Zero offers psychics, chimeras, shapeshifting neo-therianthropes and ordinary humans as character options. Biotechnology, the privatisation of warfare, redemption and preserving one’s humanity sit alongside the action, all making room for spectacular confrontations while giving the people caught inside this hidden war personal stakes.

From Savage Worlds to Year Zero
The Backerkit campaign isn’t the first time Titan Effect has been crowdfunded. It was originally on Kickstarter years ago, from 3rd October to 2nd November 2017, successfully raising money for the games original Savage Worlds edition, that was released back in 2018.

The change of crowdfunding platform isn’t the only thing that has changed this time round, with Knight Errant Media swapping the Savage Worlds system for Free League Publishing’s Year Zero Engine, specifically the step-dice approach associated with Blade Runner and Twilight: 2000. The new Titan Effect Zero is a standalone game, containing its own rules.
Characters typically roll an attribute die and a skill die, ranging from D6 to D12. Results of six or higher generate successes, with ten or higher providing two. Pushing a roll offers another chance at success but risks stress or other consequences. The planned 250-plus-page corebook includes more than 80 powers and abilities, equipment, a mission generator, adversaries and an introductory mission. You can check the game out now for free, with the Titan Effect Zero QuickStart that is available on DriveThruRPG.
Titan Effect Zero is currently funding on Backerkit until Saturday 31st October 2026.
