On Friday evening Games Workshop revealed they will be taking players deeper into the Underhive with the Warhammer Necromunda Roleplaying Game, as part of their 2026 Big Autumn Preview broadcast event.

Warhammer Necromunda Roleplaying Game is a new miniature driven tabletop roleplaying game set in one of the darkest corners of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Rather than controling an entire gang, each plaer takes the rolw of an individual bounty hunter, or Venator, accepting dangerous assignments from the Arbitrator, Necromunda’s equivalent of a games master. The game combined traditional roleplaying, investigation and character development with miniature-based combat adapted from the existing Necromunda skirmish rules.

The Core Set will contain a 224-page rulebook, 18 new plastic miniatures, two double-sided playmats, dice, reference sheets, an Arbtrator’s screen and two complete adventures. Four ready-to-play characters are included: an Escher Assassin, Orlock Gunslinger, Squat Fixer, and Goliath Champion. Players can also create their own Venators drawn from Necromunda’s six Clan Houses, the wider Underhive population, or the Ironhead Squats.

Its percentile-based rules require players to roll beneath a target number determined by their skills and the difficulty of the task. Combat retains familiar Necromunda features, including Single and Double actions, injury rolls and specialised dice, but expands the action beyong gang battles to include social encounters, exploration, and investigation.

The game will launch alongside Journal Apocrypha: Denizens of the Hive, a 48-page supplement providing profiles for 51 potential enemies and allies. Games Workshop has not yet announced a firm release date or price, describing both items simply as “available soon”.

What is Necromunda?

Necromunda is an industrial “hive world” within the Warhammer 40,000 setting. Most of its population lives inside enormus, densely packed, cities where the wealthy occupy the upper levels and billions of workers labour beneath them. Far below lies the Underhive, a lawless maze of abandoned factories, polluted settlements and collapsing infrastructure dominated by gangs, bounty hunters, mutants, and criminal enterprises.

The original standalone Necromunda miniature game was released in 1995, although its immediate predecesspr. Confrontation, appeared in White Dwarf during the early 90’s. Designed around small gangs rather than large armies, Necromunda became particularly well known for its campaig system. Fighters gained experience, suffered lasting injuries, acquired equipment and sometimes died permanently, as a gang’s story developed across multiple battles.

While the game never achieved the popularity, or mass market reach, of some of Games Workshop’s other games, Necromunda did acquire a devoted following who kept the game alive after reguklar support diminished, helping lead to the successful launch of Necromunda: Underhive In 2017, and an extensive stream of gangs, rulebooks, campaigns and miniatures since, leading up to the recent release of the new Necromunda Skirmish Core Set on 15th August, 2026.
