The Kickstarter campaign for the new ThunderCats roleplaying game is now in its final 48 hours.
Published by Dynamite Entertainment and written by Lynnvander Studios, this forthcoming RPG promises to capture ‘the excitement, drama, and adventure of the beloved animated and comic series’. It is officially licensed and compatible with D&D 5e.
The campaign revolves around the core 240+ page hardcover rulebook. Described as ‘your ALL IN ONE reference to start playing and experiencing the action and adventure of the world of the Thundercats’, this rulebook contains everything players will need to ‘make characters, run adventures, fight creatures’ and create Thundercats campaigns, including:
• Rules for creating ThunderCats and Mu'tants
• All new classes, subclasses, feats, artifacts, monsters et al ‘designed specifically for the ThunderCats universe’.
• An ‘expansive campaign’.
• A unified world derived from the ‘Rich lore and history’ derived from both cartoon and comic continuities.
• New ThunderCats Subclasses. Whilst these are ‘designed for use in any setting’, they are based on characters and plotlines seen in the ThunderCats universe. These include various bards, barbarians, fighters etc. It also introduces a new class, the mechanist. These characters use ‘ingenuity to tip the odds’ and ‘retool their gear’.
This new game is not only fully designed and written, but it is also ready for print. It will available in a number of different editions; these include a standard hardcover, a Kickstarter limited edition variant art hardcover (which also features a commemorative plate which honours ‘the history and legacy of the ThunderCats’) and a deluxe leather-bound edition.’
Other goodies include a GM screen, character sheet packs, dice and an Eye of Thundera dice tray. Prospective GMs can also look forward to running scenarios contained in the 120+ pages Thundercats Adventure Module Guide.
This campaign marks the tabletop debut of the ThunderCats. Printing of the RPG will begin as soon as the Kickstarter ends, and shipping is scheduled to start by the end of February 2026.
Although this campaign is also Dynamite’s tabletop gaming debut, the company has been publishing comics and graphic novels since 2004; its leading titles include The Boys, Army of Darkness, Game of Thrones and many more.
Lynnvander Studios is an award-winning game design team which has published RPGs for such properties as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Army of Darkness and Dragon Ball Z.
