Magical Kitties Save the Day & Zweihander Both Get New Third-Party Licenses

The last few days have seen two very different games open up, or revise, their third-party licenses to allow other creators to publish, distribute, and sell new content.

Atlas Games Magical Kitties Save the Day has been given an Open License whilst SLLSWRD Publishing have updated and expanded their Zweihander third-party license.

Magical Kitties Save the Day is a roleplaying game designed for all ages. Great fun for adults, and also a purr-fect way to introduce kids to roleplaying.

Every Magical Kitty has a human. Every human has a Problem. In Magical Kitties Save the Day, you need to use your magical powers to solve problems and save the day!

But kitties live in Hometowns that are filled with Troubles like witches, aliens, and hyper-intelligent raccoons. Troubles make Problems worse, so the kitties need to go on adventures to take care of the Troubles before that can happen.

The core rulebook, and all subseuqent sourcebooks, are part of the new license which allows creators to release their own Magical Kitties books for fun or profit. To encourage fans to contributing to releasing their won Magical Kitties Open License material Atlas Games is also hosting a special giveaway - offering up a free digital Magical Kitties package worth $90, which includes all the products in the line, to the first 30 people to post a Magical Kitties release on DriveThruRPG by 31st July 2026. Zweihander is almost the polar oppopsite to Magical Kitties. It’s a grim, dark fantasy horror game which has left the battle of good and evil behind, and has immersed itself where the lines between right and wrong blur, and survival comes at a cost. Creator Daniel Fox and SLLSWRD Publishing have created a Third-Party License allowing others to design, publish, and sell independent content for the game without needing to pay licensing fees or acquire approval to do so.

The license covers print and digital releases - including VTT formats - in any language. Whilst you can not use the exitsing artwork or text, or publish a full standalone game that replaces the core Zweihander rulebook, you can create a wealth of material such as new rules, adventures, campaigns, monsters, settings, classes, etc.
