Call of Cthulhu Comes to Stiring Castle

Chaosium is bringing Lovecraftian horror to one of Scotland’s most historic locations with The King’s Call - Cthulhu in Medieval Scotland.

Being held in the Great Hall of Stirling Castle on Saturday 17th October, the live performance will combine Medieval Scotland, Viking history, and the Cthulhu Mythos and feature a cast of professional gamers and Chaosium employees. Mike Mason will be GMing the liveplay, with Michael O’Brien, Jon Gracey, Viv Egan an Nick Brooke taking on playing roles. The cast is almost identical to those who appeared at the Call of Cthulhu - Horror in the Cisterns - Cthulhu in Byzantium live performance held in Istanbul in June. With Mike Mason joining the team in place of Tegan Verheul, and taking over the Keeper of Arcane Lore role from Michael O’Brien who GM’d the game in Turkey.

The latest event is being presented by Chaosium, Historic Environment Scotland, the University of Edinburgh’s History and Games Lab, and the UKRI-supported A Viking in the Sun project.

The Chaosium announcement, which they made on 17th September, is entitled A Viking in the Sun presents The King’s Call - Cthulhu in Medieval Scotland… although the poster they supplied with it calls the event ‘Cthulhu in Renaissance Scotland’. With talk of taik of viking history it seems much more likely the scenario played will be medieval, but Chaosium will hopefully clarify that before the event.

The King’s Call will run from 7.30-9.30pm, and tickets are available through Historic Environment Scotland, priced from £9 to £15.
