Gen Con 2026: Tornado Warning and Roof Leaks Disrupt Saturday at Gen Con 2026

Your rewards include elevated adrenaline levels, an excellent story for social media, and the comforting knowledge that the roof over your head was, at best, making a spirited attempt at remaining indoors.

As thunderstorms battered Indianapolis during Gen Con 2026, attendees found themselves facing an unexpected side quest. A tornado warning sent thousands of gamers to sheltered areas inside the Indiana Convention Center, while torrential rain exposed leaks throughout parts of the Exhibit Hall. Publishers hurried to protect books and games, exhibitors covered displays, and shoppers watched as one of the convention's busiest afternoons ground to an abrupt halt.

Fortunately, the final boss turned out to be less dangerous than feared. Once the all-clear was given, attendees were treated to an unforgettable public address from audiobook narrator Jeff Hays, who transformed the emergency announcement into an in-universe Dungeon Crawler Carl performance, joking that the convention had suffered a "level collapse" before confirming the Exhibit Hall would remain closed for the rest of the day.

Thankfully the unexpected interruption happened towards the end of the trade halls opening times, with the National Weather Service issuing the tornado warning at 5.23pm, with the storm hitting in force at 5.30pm. Gen Con attendees in the Lucas Oil Stadium were evacuated to the tunnels between the stadium and convention center.
