Luke Gygax and Dan Ayoub (Wizard of the Coasts VP of Franchise at Dungeons Dungeons) announced during a panel at GaryCon XVIII this week that Luke is working on a book called Melf’s Guide to Greyhawk, signaling a return to one of the games earliest campaign settings from the 70’s.
Whilst Dave Arneson’s Blackmoor was Dungeons & Dragons first campaign setting in development the release of Supplement I : Greyhawk came out a few months earlier than Supplement II : Blackmoor, making Greyhawk and the world of Oerth the first officially released setting for the game.
For many years Greyhawk was the main setting for the game, only being dethroned when Forgotten Realms was released in 1987. Despite Greyhawk not getting as much official love in recent decades, the setting has remained incredibly popular amongst fans and the news of a new book has been eagerly anticipated for some time.
Gary Gygax, D&D’s co-creator, created Greyhawk and ran games for friends and family during its development. Many of the signature characters that came about in the game were based upon the characters they played. Melf, of new book Melf’s Guide to Greyhawk fame, was an elven character played in the 1970’s by Luke, Gary’s son, who is now returning to his father’s world to pen the new book.
Little is actually known about the new book, it’s contents or when it may be released, but the fact that it’s in development - alongside several adventures also being written by Luke - will be a great opportunity for old fans to return, and new fans to discover, the wonders that await adventuring in Greyhawk.

You know the story. You wait for a bus for ages and then two come along at the same time. Well, it might not have been that long since Cubicle 7 gave us new Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay books but they’re releasing not one but TWO new ones into retail in the next week.
