The Muppets Meet Lord of the Rings in Land of Eem on Humble Bundle

“The Lord of the Rings meet The Muppets”… what a great tag line, and it immediately piqued my interest about Land of Eem, this whimsical and kid-friendly fantasy tabletop roleplaying game, when I read it.

It’s safe to say that I’ve been a bit entranced by the Land of Eem tabletop roleplaying game since I discovered it a year or two back. I missed the crowdfunding campaign that Exalted Funeral ran for it, raising almost $250,000, back in 2022, but managed to pick up a lovely physical slipcase set off a friend who was selling it.

Set in the worlds of Ben Costa and James Park’s Dungeoneer Adventures and Rickety Stitch and the Gelatinous Goo graphic novels, Land of Eem is a game about adventurers exploring and discovering the remnants of a forgotten, better age. Players take the roles of lore-seeking travelers, fortune-seeking pioneers, and adventure-seeking heroes in a time devoid of them. But, despite all it’s apocalyptic doom and gloom, Land of Eem is a lighthearted game with a sense of humour… and let’s face it any game that says it “combines Lord of the Rings high fantasy epicness with a heavy dose of Muppets-like whimsy and a dash of Mad Max dystopia” is certainly one that won’t be taking itself completely seriously.

Now Star & Flame Games and Exalted Funeral are offering a great deal for five of their books on Humble Bundle for the next couple of weeks. The Land of Eem Bundle will allow you to goexploring through the Mucklands and meet a wide assortment of colorful characters and creatures.

After the gleaming empires of old fell to the Gloom King, the Mucklands has become a tired land riddled with dungeons. Greedy tycoons seek power at the expense of the people, the environment, and possibly existence itself. They say this unrule world has no heroes - but they’ve never met you. Lands of Eem won three ENnieAwards last year for Best Family Game, Best Monster/Adversary Book, and Best Production Values, and I’m not surprised in the least. It’s a fantsatic looking game and well worth checking out, especially if you (or your kids) are fans of shows such as Adventure Time which I feel has certainly helped inspire the setting.
