Body
There are fantasy landscapes that provide somewhere to fight, and others that suggest an adventure before anyone has rolled a die. Johnny Fraser-Allen’s Hagglethorn Hollow has always belonged in the latter camp - a crooked, characterful world where buildings and woodland seem to have stories of their own.
Now Fraser-Allen is returning with Hagglethorn Hollow: Evermaze, a modular terrain collection crowdfunding on Gamefound now and running through to Saturday 28th November 2026. Published under the Hagglethorn Hollow Hobbies banner, it brings hedge labyrinths, weathered stonework and curious inhabitants into the setting.
The two main collections, Hedge Maze and Stone Maze, offer fantastic scenery for roleplaying adventures, miniature skirmishes or display pieces. Hidden doors, gnomefolk, stumpfolk and awakened beasts inhabit the woodland, while ruined arches, walls and winding paths provide the bones of an expedition into somewhere decidedly strange.

It was built, stone by stone, by hands nobody remembers, and it has been rearranging itself ever since.
Fourteen modular pieces make the labyrinth: Maze Walls A, B, and C, a thin single wall, double thin and double thick walls, a small curve and a large curved wall, a spiral staircase and a broad staircase, single, double, and arch doorways, and a ruined end wall for the passages that lost an argument with time. Two cobble stone plates lay the floor beneath it all.
Every piece carries the rough, hand-stacked character of the Hollow, so a wall is never just a wall. Mix intact spans with the ruined end and the maze tells a story before a single mini touches the table: something came through here, and it did not use the door.
Build a tight corridor crawl, a sprawling labyrinth, or a ruined perimeter around a forest shrine. All of it comes with the Stone Maze pledge and the All-In.

The Hedge Maze is the green, breathing edge of the Evermaze. In the Hollow the hedge has will, memory, and mood. It guides travelers, divides them, hides them, or leads them exactly where it wants them, whether they like it or not.
Twelve modular pieces lock edge to edge: Straight Rows A and B, Arch Corners A and B, Arch T-Sections A and B, Dual Archways A and B, Curving Walls left and right, and Half Boxes A and B. Build a tight corridor for a chase, open it into a courtyard for a ritual, or wall in a garden nobody is supposed to find.
The wild edges come with it. Three henge setups, six carved statues under three lode stones, for the places where the hedge thins and the ground remembers older things. Two obelisks to mark the way. Three stump paths that wander from a single stump to a triple. And the cobble pathways: eighteen cobble patches and five root pieces to lay the ground between the hedges.
All of it comes with the Hedge Maze pledge and the All-In.
All the terrain pieces are modular so you can keep rearranging them as desired. A mysterious garden can become a woodland ambush point or the approach to a forgotten settlement between sessions, giving the set immense reusability.

Fraser-Allen’s route to this world began long before crowdfunding. In a 2019 interview with OnTableTop, he spoke of building Warhammer and Lord of the Rings scenery in his parents’ garage before going on to join Weta Workshop at nineteen. His early work in the miniatures department on King Kong introduced him to professional scenery-making techniques that he could bring home to his gaming table.
His subsequent film work has included character and creature design for The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Adventures of Tintin and The BFG. He also brought his sculpting to the tabletop through River Horse’s adaptations of Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. When I first looked at the Evermaze campaign one of my first thoughts was of the Labyrinth movie, so knowing his background certainly helps explain the appeal of Hagglethorn Hollow.

The original Hagglethorn Hollow Kickstarter, launched by Tabletop Troubadour Games in 2018, was for a fantastic range of buildings. I remember backing it for a single NZ$ in the desperate hope that I’d have some spare money to pick some bits up from it after the campaign when it went to pledge management, but alas no lottery win came my way. Thankfully they didn’t have to rely on my pledge though, as the campaign raised NZ$665,611 from 1,086 backers, and probably a lot more through the after camp[aign pledge management. In 2021, a collaboration with Printable Scenery brought the setting to home printers through the Hagglethorn Hollow STL Files campaign, raising another NZ$373,560 from 2,695 backers.

Evermaze is continuing the connection between traditional craft and digital production. The models begin life as physical sculptures. Scanning specialist Piotr Fox Wysocki then captures Fraser-Allen’s originals in extraordinary detail, reducing the digital models to practical file sizes while retaining their textures and tool marks. The digital process preserves the handmade work that gives the Hollow its identity.
A limited number of unpainted physical print packages are available in the current campaign, but are sadly limited for US delivery only, meaning UK and Rest of the World backers are limited to the digital STL collections to print at home.
For anyone drawn to the darker corners of storybook fantasy, Evermaze offers a landscape with enough personality to help inspire what happens within it, and to help spawn many an idea and future adventure for your games group.
Hagglethorn Hollow: Evermaze is crowdfunding on Gamefound until Saturday 28th November 2026.
