The World’s Second-ever Roleplaying Game Returns!

A colorful illustration features a fantasy scene with three characters engaged in a battle against large, menacing spiders. On the left, a humanoid figure with a wolf-like head casts a spell, emitting flames towards a spider. In the center, a character in green attire stands ready with a bow, while on the right, another character, dressed in armor, prepares for combat. The background consists of rocky terrain, enhancing the adventurous atmosphere, with the text "LIVE ON KICKSTARTER" prominently displayed above.

First published in 1975 by Flying Buffalo, the original Tunnels & Trolls, designed by Ken St Andre, was a more friendly alternative to Dungeons & Dragons. It offered streamlined mechanics and a pioneering approach to solo roleplaying, which helped introduce new audiences to tabletop gaming. Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age is a modern interpretation of this classic game, published by Rebellion Unplugged, reborn for a new generation of fantasy roleplayers.

The Kickstarter campaign, which launched on the 17th March, is looking to produce three full colour hardcover books in both standard and deluxe formats, as well as a softcover solo adventure. There are also a range of add-ons available including items such as dice, a GM Screen, cloth maps, and a boxed Storytelling Kit.

The three hardcovers are the 256-page Core Rulebook, which gives you everything players and GMs need to learn to play and run the game. Hazar, City of a Thousand Guilds, a 112-page city sourcebook that details the people, venues and misadventures that players can meet and get involved in. The third hardcover is the Cavern of the Petrified Throne, a 112-page introductory campaign by the multi-award winning writer Gareth Hanrahan.

Also available is the 80-page softcover Solo Sidequest #1: The Wailing City, by Scott Malthouse, which sees you trying to save the city of Hazar from being plagued by the undead.

A Beta Quickstart Rules PDF is available to download for free for anyone wanting to check it out before committing to backing the campaign. The PDF includes a condensed version of the rules, a guide to creating characters, and Trouble Brewing - a ready to play adventure for 2 to 5 players.

You can find more information, or back the campaign, on the Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age Kickstarter page.

In 1975 an Arizona librarian decided the world's first #RPG was, frankly, nonsense, and wrote a better one using dice from Monopoly sets. Tunnels & Trolls: A New Age on #Kickstarter via Rebellion Unplugged. Free quickstart PDF. That's the news. #TunnelsAndTrolls
