Night Goblins and Squigs Charage onto the Blood Bowl Pitch

Games Workshio unveiled a new Night Goblin team for Blood Bowl during its Big Autumn Preview on Friday, bringing the subterranean troublemakers, and a bucketload of Squigs, back to the gridiron.

The forthcoming plastic set contains six Night Goblin Linemen and two each of four specialist positions: Cave Squigs, Squig Wranglers, Squig Hoppers, and Squig Herders. This makes it the first dedicated Night Goblin team produced for Blood Bowl, rather than just adding Night Goblin characters to a conventional Gobin roster.

Each specialist brings a different flavour of controlled - or barely controlled - chaos. Cave Squigs and Spring Hoppers possess the Pogo skill, while nearby Herders are needed to prevent the creatures from succumbing to the new Squig Rage rule. Most alarming of all are the Squig Wranglers: Strength 7 Ball & Chain players whose movements are unlikely to respect uniforms, tactics, or personal safety.

The last notable official Night Goblin presence was Fungus the Loon, the ball-and-chain weilding Night Goblin Star Player. Squigs alao appeared in the game’s 2017 rules, although not as players. Death Zone Season Two introduced the option of using an unpredictable Squig as the ball, subsequently collected in the Blood Bowl Almanac 2017. Almost a decade later, the creatures are finally being allowed to participate properly… although ‘properly’ may be overstating matters.

Rules for the new team will appear in Spike! Journal Issue 23, alongside background for Night Goblin teams such as the Eight Peaks Loonatics, a coaching guide, and rules for the shroom and bat Squig balls included with the kit.

Games Workshop haven’t announced a release date, or price, as yet. Further details, including how Squig Rage works, will be revealed closer to the teams arrival.
