Jeffery Jones is back on Kickstarter leading the charge to fund the eleventh issue of the Gary’s Appendix magazine. Gary’s Appendix is a 44-page, A5, old school fantasy zine for tabletop roleplaying games. Fully compatible with Old-School Essentials and many other OSR games. The latest issue, Gary’s Appendix #11, brings those staples of fantasy games everywhere to centre stage - Goblins.
This Issue's Articles:
Goblins Beyond the Veilby Shannon Appelcline
Shannon has contributed to Gary's Appendix before, but this is his most ambitious entry yet. He sets aside the standard OSE goblin — a Tolkien derivative, and he'll tell you exactly why — and rebuilds the creature from European folklore sources. The "faerie goblin" is chaotic but not evil; an agent of disorder, not malevolence, fallen from some higher plane and now slipping through the veil between worlds. Shannon includes two full stat blocks (the Faerie Goblin and the Monstrous Faerie Goblin), a d20 table of unique goblin physical traits, a d20 table of unique goblin abilities, a description of Goblin Land itself, and six adventure seeds drawn directly from fairy literature: Andrew Lang, Christina Rossetti, and George MacDonald.
The Bonejinx Tribeby Zac Goins
A drop-in cave-dwelling goblin clan. The Bonejinx carve their armor from the bones of ancient, unnamed creatures and worship He Who Gnaws — a primordial deity dwelling in the deepest caverns. Their shaman coven runs the tribe; goblin kings come and go. Zac provides three original stat blocks (the Basher, the Bruiser, and the Shaman), a 3d6 Bone Totem Generator, an encounter table, and a fully fleshed tribal ecology. Ready to slot into any dungeon or hex.

Making the Most of Your Goblinsby [Jeff C. Stevens / Murkdice — confirm credit before launch]
Five fully-realized goblin NPCs ready to drop into any campaign. Not stat-block collections — these are characters, each with a name, a look, a day job, a secret ambition, a unique magic item, and stat adjustments to match. There's Frock Glurgur, the toupee-wearing tavern fixer who traffics in favors. Ginja Ruzkin, the brothel manager who secretly wants to be a poet. Bulgark the Large, whose enchanted belt keeps him immovable and perpetually eating. The Snake, an assassin looking to sell her name and reputation before she retires. And Perts Flibbin, the cheerful chef who fences stolen antiquities on the side. Every one of them is a better encounter than another room full of sword-fodder.
Going Greater With Goblinsby John Kaniecki
John gives referees six concrete tactics for making goblin encounters genuinely dangerous: the endless horde, the politically-protected solitary goblin, the clan led by a military genius, the magically-linked Five Who Are One, and more. The framing alone — opening with the sleep spell, the bored fighter mopping up — is worth the price of admission.
Garblegrihm, God of the Goblinsby Onslaught Six
The Keeper of the Dark. The King of Disgust. The Lord of Shadows. Gnomish mothers tell their children he lives under their beds. Onslaught Six introduces a full goblin deity with his own cleric powers, turning ability (against "cleanly" creatures, including janitors and knights in shining armor), and seven original spells: Blessing of Garblegrihm, Putrify Food and Water, Goblin Mode, Master of Shadows, and others. Enemy shamans, cleric PCs who complete the right ritual, and players who make bad decisions all get access to the same spell list.

The Fungal Goblins of the Deeper Darkby Zac Goins
This one is body horror in the best old-school tradition. A predatory plant called the Great Bloom lurks in the jungle, luring goblins inside with the smell of rot and the gleam of false treasure. It sedates them, floods them with spores, and releases them. Days later, their bellies swell. They become anxious, needing to press close to the canopy, to dig their fingers into soil. And then — at a time of the spores' choosing — they rupture. Two new stat blocks, full infection mechanics, and a creeping threat that can spread into your water supply.
All Hail the Goblin King!by Zac Goins
Every goblin lair needs its own king. This random generator builds one from the dice up: a 1d20 name table, a 1d12 ritual blessing, a 1d10 companion table, a 1d8 weapon table, motivation and behavior rolls, and a 1d% regalia table. Over four million possible combinations. Roll one up in two minutes or spend an evening building the bloated, magnificent tyrant your dungeon deserves.
Bestiary: Horse and Giant Fishby Jeffrey Jones
Jeff continues his expanded OSE bestiary, this time covering the Horse and the Giant Fish — examining lore, mythology, ecology, and the details that turn a stat block into an actual encounter.
Gary's Appendix: Issue 11 (Goblins!) is currently funding on Kickstarter, with the campaign running until Thursday 30th July 2026.
