Of Folk and Fey

Core Rulebook by Dice Goblin Press

Of Folk and Fey is built on the common themes and archetypes of folklore, for a game with a true folklore feel - it's your own fairytale, but not like the Disney-fied versions. These are the real fairytales, the ones that passed down from mother to daughter, the ones the warn of efreets and elves in the woods, the ones that hold ancient hidden wisdom.

Use the rule of three and other fairytale tropes to build your adventure, and play as a character with a magical inheritance. Use your wits and the items in your knapsack to solve problems, and win the day with attributes like kindness, bravery, simplicity, and cleverness. Oh, and if you die you can decide to become a ghost and come back and haunt the party until they resurrect you. Now that's commitment to character!

Of Folk and Fey uses a dice pool system inspired by Cortex Prime, and a system called Boons and Woes - loosely inspired by Daggerheart's hope and fear as well as Cortex Primes Doom Pool - to add texture, depth and natural consequences to the results of the rolls. Consequences and plot beats flow naturally out of this system, making improv easy (and fun!)

Other big influences for this game come from Perils and Princesses (rolling doubles being bad is a genius idea), Roll for Shoes, Breathless, and Blades in the Dark (love you, progress clocks).

Of Folk and Fey is available through DriveThruRPG in PDF.
