(RPG PDF Spotlight) Daggerheart Corebook

A fantasy-themed illustration featuring characters from the tabletop roleplaying game "DAGGERHEART," as displayed in bold, stylized text at the top. In the foreground, a woman with long, pale blue hair and pointed ears wears ornate, dark purple armor with gold accents. She holds a dagger in one hand and a glowing, spectral green weapon in the other. Behind her, a small, green-skinned creature with bat-like wings and large eyes clings to her shoulder.

To her left, a winged figure with golden armor and a sword flies upward, casting a bright light. Below, a muscular humanoid in heavy armor with a horned helmet wields a large hammer. Another armored figure with a skeletal, monstrous face and tattered wings stands nearby, holding a jagged weapon. In the lower right, a smaller character in blue clothing and a hood holds a glowing blue orb in one hand and a staff in the other.

The setting appears to be a rocky, mountainous landscape with a warm, orange sky and distant cliffs. Several shadowy, bat-like creatures fly in the background.

RPG PDF Spotlights is our daily look at a recent release for a new tabletop roleplaying game, supplement or scenario, or solo journaling game, that has caught my eye. This isn’t a review, although I hope we can start offering reviews in addition to our news coverage in the future, more of a “hey guys, check this out!” shoutout.

Daggerheart

Core Rulebook by Darrington Press

Daggerheart is a heroic fantasy tabletop roleplaying game designed for narrative-driven play. Punctuated by fast-paced and dynamic combat, the system’s collaborative tools encourage everyone at the table to be a storyteller.

When it’s time for the game mechanics to control fate, players roll one Hope die and one Fear die (both 12-sided dice) to determine the outcome. When the Hope die is higher, you also gain Hope to power future abilities and turn the tide in your favor! If the Fear die is higher, the game master gains Fear, which they’ll use to challenge the characters and richly complicate the narrative. Every choice matters as the adventure hangs in the balance between hope and fear!

In addition to dice, Daggerheart’s card system makes it easy to get started and level up your character by bringing their capabilities to your fingertips. Ancestry and Community cards describe the way your character’s physicality and culture shape their identity. Meanwhile, subclass and Domain cards grant your character plenty of exciting abilities and spells. Craft your unique character through the cards you choose and the story you tell.

With streamlined rules, 279 beautifully illustrated cards, easy onboarding for fast pick up and play, story-first mechanics, and more, Daggerheart is calling!
