Darrington Press have released the first major expansion for their Daggerheart fantasy roleplaying game. Hope & Fear introduces new worlds, new classes, and a lot more for players and GM’s alike.

Released on 25th August, Hope & Fear is available now through Critcal Role’s regional stores, Demiplane, DriveThruRPG, and Darrington Press Guild Stores, with a wider general release release taking place next month on 22nd September.

At the heart of Hope & Fear is a 200+ page hardcover which contains a wealth of new information, including the introduction of four new character classes: the Assassin, Brawler, Warlock, and Witch - each of which is accompanied by two subclasses. The Warlock and Witch also gain access to the new Dread Domain, providing a selection of suitably macabre magical abilities.

Have you been looking to unlock the mysteries of moon magic, or to weave witchcraft into your tactics and tales? The Dread Domain powers the new witch and warlock classes, which not only grant players access to eerie new spells and abilities, but can even influence the GMs Fear pool under certain circumstances - after all, why shouldn’t GMs be kept on their toes too? These mechanical and narrative options offer esoteric and beguiling new outlets for players - will you embrace the shadows?

Character creation is broaden further with six new ancestries - Skykin, Tidekin, Earthkin, Emberkin, Gnome, and Aetheris - and six communities: Duneborne, Hearthborne, Frostborne, Warborne, Freeborne, and Rebrone.

Transformations, a new mechanic, allows characters to undergo signioficant changes either as part of chaacter creation or during a campaign. There are six transformatios included here offering up Vampire. Werewolf, Reanimated. Shapeshifter, Ghost, and Demigod options.

The set isn’t all about players, with GM’s receiving plenty of new material to get their teeth in to. Hope & Fear contains more than 130 adversaries and 28 environments, alonside 100+ new weapons, armour, items, and consumables. There are also four new Campaign Frames providing ready-made foundations for campaigns and introducing new worlds and settings to explore.

Hope & Fear contains four new Campaign Frames to tell stories across a range of genres and levels of complexity. Embrace that back-to-school anxiety and excitement with Castle High, where students of a prestigious floating academy must solve mysteries and endure adolescent angst. Or embark on an epic journey of discovery in the hex-crawl odyssey ‘ourney to Horizon. Or perhaps you’d like to revisit the heyday or dark fairytales through the grim and whimsical vibes of Reign of the Weredragon (which will be highlighted in a forthccoming Critical Role mini series), or revel in the indulgence of a deadly-yet-decadent world, in Dark Heart of Andaluria.
