100 Weaknesses for Dragonbane Gives Flawed Heroes Their Moment

An adventurer’s shortcomings can be just as memorable as their greatest triumphs, and Cakebread & Walton’s latest Kickstarter, 100 Weaknesses for Dragonbane, puts those flaws at the centre of the action, offering players and Gamemasters ways to turn personal failings into opportunities for adventure.

The book gives examples by kin and profession, but most of the weaknesses could be used with any character. The first section offers players a list of choices and examples of how they can bring a character to life. The second section gives Gamemasters a host of exciting ideas and/or encounters to tempt or challenge a character's weaknesses.

Each of the 100 Weaknesses is accompanied by 5 ways to challenge it — meaning that it contains 500 possible challenges, encounters or/and roleplaying opportunities in all!

Whilst written primarily to fit the Dragonbane system, the book could provide plenty of inspiration, character development opportunities and roleplaying moments for a variety of other fantasy tabletop RPGs.

Written by Graham Brand and Peter Cakebread, with illustrations by Gary Buckland, the supplement is designed for Dragonbane but also intended to provide inspiration for other fantasy RPGs. It’s the first time that Cakebread & Walton have dipped their ink into supporting a third-party license such as Dragonbane, but other works are already in the pipeline.

The book is available in digital, softcover and hardcover formats, with fulfilment taking place through DriveThruRPG. The campaign is also offering some fantastic bundle deals, with the £50 Epic Failure tier offering a premium hardcover and PDF of 100 Weaknesses but also ten PDFs of Cakebread & Walton’s core rulebooks. Ultimate Undoing, at £75, takes things even further, adding a PDF copy of the companies entire back catalogue of published works, which is a real steal.

Dragonbane is the English-language incarnation of Drakar och Demoner, the Swedish RPG first published in 1982. Free League Publishing’s reimagined edition has done phenomenally well and it’s third-party licensning agreement has seen a lot of companies releasing support material for the game, adding to the variety of the adventures and supplements that Free League publish themseleves.

Cakebread & Walton is a British RPG publisher established in the late 00’s by Peter Cakebread and Ken Walton. The company was behind a flurry of games including the alternative English Civil War Clockwork & Chivalry, Pirates & Dragons, Dark Streets, and Abney Park’s Airship Pirates, a RPG developed and inspired by the songs of steampunk band Abney Park. They also publish OneDice, an ultra accessible system built around an ordinary six-sided die, designed for quick play across different genres and suitable for all ages.

100 Weaknesses for Dragonbane is currently funding on Kickstarter and is running until Wednesday 2nd December 2026, with digital fulfilment due by May 2027 and physical copies following in June 2027.
