Witches, Vampires and a Missing Tiny Horse: Discworld’s Lancre and Überwald RPG Launches on Gamefound

Modiphius Entertainment launched their second tabeltop roleplaying game set in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld earlier this week and, unsurprisingly, saw the campaign quickly fly past it’s £50,000 goal. Terry Pratchett’s Discworld: Adventures in Lancre and Überwald on Gamefound, takes the roleplaying line beyond Ankh-Morpork and into the mountains, villages and gothic country houses of Pratchett’s wider world.

Alongside the campaign, a free 48-page quickstart offers a first taste of rural adventure, witch magic and the considerable responsibility of making sure a royal birthday party goes to plan.

Following Adventures in Ankh-Morpork, the new game explores Lancre, the magic-soaked Ramtops, Überwald and the Chalk. It’s a standalone game containing all the rules needed to play, giving newcomers a starting point without requiring the earlier core book. Character options include witches, vampires and Pictsies, opening up adventures with a different flavour from the crowded streets of the Disc’s most notorious city.

The campaign includes standard and collector’s editions of the core rulebook, with the latter featuring exclusive cover artwork from fan-favourite and long time Pratchett-collaborator Paul Kidby. Additional products available through the campaign include a Gamemaster’s Toolkit, Adventures Across the Ramtops, The Chalk and Unthinking Machines, alongside themed dice and other accessories.

Interestingly there is no pledge level just for the core rulebook by itself, with the cheapest pledge being the £40 Esme digital bundle that includes the six base PDFs from the campaign (Core Rulebook, Quickstart, Lancre and Uberwald Gamemaster’s Toolkit, Adventures Across the Ramptops, Unthinking Machines Campaign Book, The Chalk book) as well as all the PDF stretch goals that the campaign unlocks. The next two pledge levels offer up a physical core rulebook, as well as all of the PDFs, but also two sets of dice, with the £66.96 Mistress pledge giving you the standard core book and the £96.56 Granny swapping out the standard core for the Paul Kidby covered collectors edition. As far as I can tell tehre is no way to just get a physical copy of the rulebook by itself without the dice, or adding it as an add-on to the Esme digital but that would end up costing almost as much as just goping for the Granny so is pointless. I guess, if you just want the core rulebook by itself you’re best bet is to just wait until the game hits retail. The expected delivery date for the campaign is June 2027 for the digital content and October 2027 for the physical bundles.

The most popular pledge, so far, is the £200 Go Around the Other Side of the Mountain tier, which gives you hard copies of the five main books (including the Collectors Edition Core Rulebook) plus stretch goals, in adiditon to all the PDFs (including the Quickstart).

Adventures Across the Ramtops

Expected to come in around 144 pages, this hardcover book…

sets you up for adventures across the Ramptops, from rural Lancre to deepest darkest Uberwald. The best part is we’ve written them all for you, so all you have to do is choose whichever adventure you like the look of, give it a read, and try to keep the players going in roughly the right direction.

Unthinking Machines

This 112-page supplement provides everything you need to build your own campaigns. We’ve even included one we’ve written for you. This series of linked adventures sees players tackle the Unthinking Machines. People have had their capacity to think for themselves, stolen, and it’s time for you to take it back in true Uberwaldean fashion, with torches and pitchforks if necessary.

The Chalk

This 96-page book takes Adventures in Lancre and Uberwald on a little holiday to the Chalk, home of Tiffany Aching and, unfortunately, the Nac Mac Feegle. Here we have collated everything you need to create characters from the Chalk, even Feegles o’ yer ain*, as well as all the places and faces you’d associate with the Chalk, and even a few who are more fairy tale than folklore.

*including a helpful Feegle to Morprokian dictionary so you can translate what we just said

Faerlie Common Faerie Tales

This is a 64-page book and PDF exclusive to the campaign, and won’t be available at retail. Faerlie Common Faerie Tales is a supplement that lets you bring your favourite fairtale fo the Disc, and maybe invade Fairyland along the way.

This supplement contains everything you need to know to bring your favourite fairytale to the Disc. We’ve even thrown in an adventure to get you in the swing of things, and by things we mean claymores, fists, and anything else available to the enterprising Feegle. Grab this supplement before some other scunner nabs it, and send your players on the Feegle adventure of their dreams!

The Quickstart and Horsin’ Around

Written by Corey Davies, the quickstart’s adventure, Horsin’ Around, introduces Lancre through a problem that is unlikely to destroy the world but could certainly ruin somebody’s afternoon.

Preparations are underway for the birthday of Princess Esmerelda Margaret Note Spelling of Lancre. Queen Magrat needs a collection of animals for the Royal Petting Zoo, particularly Gideon, a much-loved tiny horse. Shawn Ogg is supposed to be organising matters, but progress has been less than satisfactory. The player characters are recruited to find him, help gather the animals and ensure Gideon reaches the celebrations.

Potential rewards for the characters include extra birthday cake and avoiding Granny Weatherwax’s disapproval. Both are compelling reasons to get moving.

The search takes the group through six locations, including Lancre Castle Courtyard, a fishing spot, Thisbank and Thatbank villages, and Only Bridge. The adventure supplies clues, suggested consequences and advice for keeping the investigation moving, while encouraging the GM to accommodate unexpected approaches. There are also instructions for shortening the route when playing time is limited.

The Quickstart is currently available to download for free, and gives you all the rules and pre-generated characters required to play the adventure.
