Coming soon, Blood on the Sands promises to be a 'historically inspired skirmish game' which 'immerses players in thrilling one-on-one gladiatorial combats'.

However, the game will not focus purely on bloody combat; players will also manage a ludus and its stable of gladiators. This ludus will, initially, compete in tournaments staged in the provincial arenas of ancient Rome. By managing their best fighters in an astute fashion, however, that ludus will acquire enough prestige to, eventually, compete in the grandest of colosseums.

Combat in Blood on the Sands will capture the 'dynamic, back-and-forth “dance” of the gladiatorial duel'. The mechanics have been designed to create narrative combats 'that move across the arena', and call on players to summon all of their 'tactics, skill, and [...] luck’.

Blood on the Sands will contain not only finely detailed, hard-plastic, multi-part miniatures made by Wargames Atlantic, but also all the dice, cards, counters et al required to play.
