One Last Time - The Nemesis Trilogy Concludes In Nemesis: Retaliation

The third stand-alone installment of the hit Nemesis sci-fi horror board game series hit retail this week, along with a trove of expansions. Nemesis: Retaliation, by Awaken Realms, is the final part of the Nemesis trilogy and made over $21,000,000 on Gamefound back in 2023.

You don’t need to own, or have played, any of the previous games in the series to enjoy Retaliation. The game, a 1-5 player semi co-operative for ages 14+, has a strong sci-fi horror theme which this time sees the players part of a Marines Squad fully aware what they’re about to get themselves in to.

The game can be played solo, co-op or semi co-op, with the semi co-op mode giving each player a secret objective that can sometimes be team based, but could also target one of the other players to eliminate.

The original Nemesis took place on Nemesis ship. Nemesis: Lockdown, the second in the series, is set in a second base on Mars. The final part of the triology, Nemesis: Retaliation, sees a squad of Marines entering an alien nest and fighting the hordes.

Nemesis: Retaliation introduces some new mechanics in to the series, including a reworked health system, and new character actions. The core game itself gives you plenty of content to keep you busy, as you’d hope with a RRP of £189.99, but in the tradition of the earlier Nemesis titles they are also a host of expansions set available that give you extra missions, new enemies, alternative miniatures, and more.

Nemesis: Retaliation - Xyrians Expansion

The Xyrians are an independent faction that brings a whole new dimension to your gameplay, blending unpredictability with strategic depth. Xyrians are creatures that resemble octopuses, and they have an advanced blending technology that lets them hide in plain view. This is why, during the game with Xyrian, you will be adding their tokens - but can never be sure whether this is only an old trace of an actual Xyrian until you step into the room and investigate.

Nemesis: Retaliation - Sangrevores Expansion

Sangrevores are a new type of enemy race. There is no Queen this time - but a mighty “King”, an ancient being awakened from a long slumber. Mining scavengers found a mysterious looking “capsule” created out of non-human bones stacked together as if multiple beings had created this tomb from their own bodies. It was quickly transported to the closest human base for further investigation… and, well, let’s just say there is a good reason why your Marines are now here.

Nemesis: Retaliation - The Classic Crew Expansion

This set bring 12 beloved crewmembers from the original Nemesis and Lockdown games into the Retaliation universe. Fully backward-compatible, this add-on is ideal for fans who don’t already own the earlier titles. This is a purely cosmetic expansion.
