A Ticket to the Universe - Mongoose Release Free Traveller Starter Pack

Mongoose Publishing have put together a digital Traveller Starter Pack and are giving it away for free to download on their website. The pack includes the 74-page Traveller Explorer’s Edition Rulebook, two scenarios, a blank character sheet and subsector map template, as well as a product listing of every else available in the range if you enjoy the game and want to expand your collection further.

The Explorer’s Edition gives you everything you need to start playing. Character creation rules, skills, combat, spacecraft, and world creation, with an emphasis on scouts and scientists heading into the unknown. The two adventures are Stranded and Death Station.

Stranded is a 33 page scenaio inspired by the Classic Traveller adventure Marooned, which appeared as part of the Classic Traveller Double Adventure 4: Marooned/Marooned Alone released in 1981. Whilst Stranded keeps the central concept the same as the classic adventure it is very much its own adventure.

Death Station clocks in at 33 pages and takes place on a Calipso-class laboratory ship run by Lysani Laboratories, who are engaged in psychochemical research - more specifically trying to improve types of combat drugs. With a name like Death Station, it’s probably safe to assume that things do not go according to plan.

This set is an ideal way for new groups to test the waters with Traveller. The first edition was released in 1977, which was a fantastic year for sci-fi both on and off the tabletop, and has maintained its position as the most popular sci-fi roleplaying playing pretty much consistantly over the last five decades.
