Gatekeeper Puts Heavy Metal Knowledge to the Test

I couldn’t pass up covering this one here. Given Steev’s background running a heavy metal music label and work for metal mags the Gatekeeper Heavy Metal Trivia Game jumped straight out of mosh pit, grabbed the mic, and demanded to be heard. Needless to say, this is a game I probably won’t play with Steev and have any chance of winning… unless it’s team play… in which case ‘Bagsy Steve for my team!!!’

Gatekeeper, is a trivia card game which includes 300 multiple-choice qquestions covering for than 50 years of metal, from classic heavy metal and thrash to nu metal, industrial, goth and black metal. Bands and albums share space with obscure subgenres. controversies, and the stranger stories that have become part of metal lore.

Players (or teams) win by reaching 10 points, with each right answer earning you a point. If you get the answer wrong your opponents can try and steal the card by calling “Um, actually” and providing what they hope is actually the correct answer. Each card also includes an extra piece of trivia, so even the tables resident metal encyclopaedia (aka Steev) might leave having learnt something.

The Kickstarter campaign is raising funds for the games first commercial print run, and for metal fans who enjoy testing (showing off) their knowledge almost as much as arguing about it Gatekeeper looks like a great way to start off a few lively conversations.
