Wargames Crew Dare You to Enter the Dark Trenches
Body
Ukrainian company Wargames Crew has launched its new wave of Weird War I miniatures
Now available for pre-order via the Wargames Crew website, Dark Trenches includes a number of distinctive factions.; these range from the Gluttons of the Abyss and the Abyssinian Colonial Phalanx, to the Whispering Blades and the Forgotten Host.
Described as ‘heretic naval devourers’, the Gluttons of the Abyss are a delightfully putrescent pack of lardy, worm-ridden doughboys. Sculpted with a combination of either gaunt emaciation or Nurgle-esque bloat, torn uniforms and spikey armour, this faction also includes screeching witches and heretical priests.
As is always the case in dark fantasy wargames, death will not end your suffering in the dark trenches, and the Forgotten Host are the unliving proof. Replete with banshees, wraiths and even shambling, pumpkin-headed skirmishers, this faction is the one for fans of undead armies and Halloween vibes.
The Abyssinian Colonial Phalanx and the Whispering Blades, meanwhile, both sport a distinctive Middle Eastern aesthetic. Flowing robes, gold, and bladed weapons and are the order of the day for these holy warriors. On a personal note, I was a big fan of Mad Mullah Ackland’s Death Commandos back in the day, so I’m also loving these two factions.
The Trench Cossacks also have a distinctively Eastern vibe, but, in this case, it’s an East Slavic / Kievan Rus feel. This faction boasts an assortment of skirmishers, priests and heavily armoured warriors. It also includes a superb pack of sellswords which features witches, Steppe sentinels, nuns, trench dogs and the truly unnerving Diduch. Derived from the East Slavic spirit of the harvest and fertility, this deathly beast makes fertilisation the last thing on my mind.
If you find yourself in need of some extra firepower, have no fear: the Mercenary faction includes all manner of murderous money-grubbers for hire. This collection of covetous killers is probably my favourite, as is includes such a cool variety of models; these encompass not only characters with roots in other factions—Mamluk Sentinels and the Abyssal Gourmand, for instance—but also intriguing characters such as the The Resonant Chewa Mercenary, the combat medic Brunzhilda Hammerkind and the Blind Herald of Purity. Better still, it also features a superb collection of cute Marginalias; this assortment of minute miscreants are absolutely bursting with mischief and character!
These miniatures are made from high quality polyurethane and range between 39 to 64mm in height. They are designed to fit on 25mm bases.
