Renegade Game Studios has launched Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe Roleplaying Game on BackerKit on the 27th October, with the project reaching its funding target in under an hour.

Based on AMC’s television adaptations of Anne Rice’s fiction, the game begins with Interview with the Vampire. Players will create their own stories within its supernatural world, exploring immortality, desire and the consequences of relationships that can outlast generations.

The launch centres on two products. The Interview with the Vampire Starter Set introduces the game through A Scent of Cloves and Lilac, a chronicle set in 1949 New Orleans. Players portray vampires abandoned by Lestat who become entangled in a murder investigation.

The Interview with the Vampire: New Orleans hardcover expands play across the period from 1910 to 2020, supporting original human and vampire characters.

Renegade’s bespoke 5d10 system includes Flashback and Rewrite mechanics, alongside consequences that extend beyond physical injury. Accessories include a Narrator Screen, Chronicle Journal and liquid-core dice inspired by Claudia, Louis and Lestat.

Flashbacks let groups revisit earlier events, from brief scenes to entire sessions. Rewrite gives players limited authority to introduce useful narrative details. Characters track Wounds, Despair and Torment, making emotional and psychological harm part of play.

I really like the Flashback idea, as it means for stories about long-lived vampires, old attachments and disputed memories can become something that the group can actively explore and gives additional avenues for interesting gameplay and stories.

Currently as of writing, less than a day after launch, the campaign has raised cover $180,000 from 800 backers, against an original target of $25,000. With the campaignnot finishing until 19th November it’ll be interesting to see what the final sum will be. Renegade expects to ship the game in the autumn of 2027, so hopefully we’ll be seeing a few games of Interview with the Vampire on the agenda for Halloween next year.

Backing options include $40 for PDFs of both main products, $55 for the starter set in print and PDF, or $55 for the standard New Orleans hardcover and PDF. The $130 Vampire pledge combines both physical products, their PDFs, First Bite dice and Eternal Archives bonus content. Higher tiers add collector editions and accessories, up to $499 for the All-In Dark Gift pledge.

Renegade are also the current publishers of Vampire: The Masquerade, and a few of the other World of Darkness games, but recently announced that their partnership with White Wolf is coming to an end on 31st December 2026. So their new AMC license will certainly be filling the supernatural gap in their portfolio very nicely.

The Immortal Universe RPG - Interview with the Vampire crowdfunding campaign on Backerkit is currently live and runs until Thursday 19th November 2026.
