Paizo Announces Price Rises Following Difficult Two Years

Paizo has announced a series of price increases across selected Pathfinder and Starfinder books, taking effect from 1st October 2026.

The most significant change affects the four Pathfinder Core hardcovers - Player Core, GM Core, Monster Core and Player Core 2 - all of which will rise from $59.99 to $69.99. Their Sketch Editions will also increase by the same amount.

Pathfidner and Starfinder Pocket Editions, currently priced at $29.99, will move to $34.99, while several Lost Omens books will also receive $5 increases. Starfinder Alien Core will also rise from $64.99 to $69.99, and special editions will continue to cost $20 more than their corresponding standard books.

Adventure Paths, standalone adventures, organised-play scenarios, fiction and accessories are unaffected. PDF prices, which were adjusted earlier in 2026, will not increase again. Paizo says future books will be priced individually according to their page count, artwork and development requirements, rather than attempting to maintain a single standard price across widely differing products.

Paizo attributes the price increases to tariffs, changing international trade rules, and higher costs of paper, printing, freight, warehousing and fulfillment. Paizo says it has absorbed as much of those costs as it responsibly can without compromising the physical qaulity of its books.

The announcement comes after an exceptionally difficult period for the Pathfinder and Starfinder publisher. The bankcruptcy of Diamond Comic Distribution left around $10 million of Paizo inventory tied up in its warehouses and subject to ongoing legal proceedings. Paizo reported losing almost $2 million during 2025, alongside writing off close to another $500,000 in anticipated sales connected to Diamond’s collapse.

Traditional book-trade sales have also remained well below their previous levels, and growth through Paizo’s own online shop and hobby game retailers was not enough to offset those losses, leading the company to restructure and lay off 12 employees earlier this year. Paizo has also reduced its planned production of organised-play scenarios, and recently teamed up with DriveThruRPG to make their complete range available on the site for the first time.

Against that background, the price rises appear to be another step in helping stabilise the business, with Paizo hoping to keep the new prices uncanged for atleast a year. The current prices will remain available through Paizo’s online store until 30th September, while retailers may continue selling existing stock at there original prices for longer.
