Mappa Mundi Expands Across the Seas with Islands and Oceans

UK based Three Sails Studios have announced the first expansion to their award-winning Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPG. This time venturing out across the blue with Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans.

Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPG is a narrative led rules-light roleplaying game set in a world populated by fantastic monsters and creatures, but recovering from a century of ecological disaster and cultural isolation. The journey, exploration, and discovery take the front seat in the game, with players acting as Chroniclers mapping out the world and documenting their discoveries. It’s certainly not anywhere near the usual fantasy fare of dungeon crawling.

The game had a successful crowdfunding campaign in March 2025 and has been really well received upon its publication, winning the Gold Award for Best RPG at Dragonmeet 2025, and being nominated for Best Cover Art, Best Interior Art, and Best Production Values at this years ENnie Awards, with the winners being unveiled at Gen Con in Indianapolis on 31st July.

Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans is also turning to crowdfunding to raise money for the book, with a Kickstarter campaign planned to launch in February 2027.

Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans introduces four new Regions to explore: three Islands and one open ocean. Each new Region features one new Monster and three new Creatures, and the game comes with additions to the Journey Deck, with new Monster cards, new ocean-based environment cards, and a brand new Weather mechanic.

Plus, we're introducing a brand new Licence to stand alongside our original four: The Mariner, expert sailors and navigators who set out into the depths of the oceans seeking new life and new mysteries.
