7th Sea 3rd Edition Sets Sail on Kickstarter

The 7th Sea Tabletop Role Playing Game is returning with a Third Edition courtesy of French publishers Studio Agate. The kickstarter launched on the 10th March and sailed passed it’s funding goal in under 30 minutes!

7th Sea is a game of swashbuckling, intrigue, and adventure set in the world of Theah. Originally designed by John Wick, and published by Alderac Entertainment Group, back in 1999 the game won an Origins award in 2000 and inspired a 7th Sea Collectible Card Game and a couple of comic book series. A second, multi-award winning, edition came out through John Wick Presents after a Kickstarter campaign that raised $1.3 million in 2016, the first time a TTRPG had passed the $1 million mark.

The game was purchased by Chaosium in 2019, who continued with the 2nd Edition with John Wick as editor of the line. Last year it was announced that Studio Agate would take over the development of the line and that has led us to this Third Edition of the game.

The Third edition advances the world’s timeline by 10 years and sees geopolitical balances shift, and new intrigues rumbling beneath the surface. Everything is designed to welcome newcomers to the game, whilst keeping, and expanding on, the back story developed across older books to give veterans of the game new challengers in a familiar setting.

The setting, Theah, is a continent that has many similarities to 17th-century Europe. Many of the countries will be recognisable in broad strokes… Montaigne, Castille, Eisen, Avalon, Ussura, Vodacce, and Vendel/Vestenmannavnjar, along with the dominant religion control by the Vaticine Church. Apart from national intrigue and politics the characters also have to navigate the world of secret societies, with their own agendas, forbidden knowledge, and political minefields.

The third edition’s Kickstarter offering includes the 200-page 7th Sea Corebook which gives you everything you need to play. Secrets of The 7th Sea, a Game Master’s guide that gives you a detailed look at Theah in 1678, along with information on the nations, major organisations, secret societies and mysteries. The boxed Starter Set is a great way to discover, or sample, the game and includes a rules summary and first adventure, 5 ready-to-play characters, GM screen, and dice - everything you need to start playing right away!

The campaign is also offering campaign exclusive collector items at higher pledge levels, including cloth maps, gold coins, a set of 11 nation pins, and more.

The Kickstarter campaign is running until around the 10th April 2026.
