A First Look at Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans

UK based Three Sails Studios announced the first expansion to their award-winning Mappa Mundi - An Exploration + Ecology RPGback in July. Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans is taking the setting offshore, detailing four new Regions to explore - three islands and one open ocean. They have now released a first peek, and details, of one of these regions.

The Eirtain Archipelago

Not far from Evasu, due west from the Barbecian coastline, lies an archipelago, once two mighty sister islands and hundreds of smaller landmasses, now one island and a roiling, churning sea covering a drowned kingdom. This, Chroniclers, is the The Eirtain Archipelago.

Eirtain, the remaining island, is based on pre-Norman Ireland, while its sunken sister, Tain, is based on pre-Norman Britain. Tain’s ambitions turned to conquest, and it was punished for its ciolence by Oillipheist, who’s rage shattered the island and sunk it beneath the sea.

The highest points of Tain remain, but its peoples are lost. But Eirtain endures, and its stewards, the Faidheanna, keep a watchful eye over the archipelago, transforming into Wrens and carrying news hither and thither.

All four new regions in the forthcoming book have been written and are currently in layout. That includes a new Monster for each region, plus three new Creatures, as well as new Tales of Interest and new maps.

The new monster for the Eirtain Arciepeligo is Oillipheist, while the Dobhar-chu is one of the regions three new Creatures.

Mappa Mundi: Islands and Oceans launches on Kickstarter in February 2027, and you can follow the campaign to notified as soon as it goes live.
