Dark Horse Books and Square Enix announced today that they are releasing the Octopath Traveler TRPG Rulebook in English this October. Previously only available in Japanese, Octopath Traveler is based on the award winning computer game of the same name.
The computer game originally came out in 2018 on Nintendo Switch, but versions for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and 5 followed over the next few years, selling over 3 million copies worldwide by 2022. The game has also receieved a prequel and a sequel.
“Octopath Traveler is set in the land of Orsterra, which was created by thirteen deities. One of them, the fallen god Galdera, was sealed away within the afterworld by the other deities after he refused to relinquish what they created. The Order of the sacred Flame, the continent’s dominant church, formed to worship the leader of the non-fallen gods, which continue to preside over Orsterra. The computer game follows the stories of eight heroes as they journey through Orsterra and, ultimately, end up in a vicious battle agianst Galdera as he tries to escape from the afterworld.”
The tabletop RPG allows players to explore the world of Orsterra in their own adventures using a 2d6 based rules system. You can run games across various timelines using your own characters or the pre-made characters that featured in the computer games. The 328 page rulebook will be available in hardcover and Dark Horse will be revealing more information about the game in the coming months.
