Ravensburger used theirQuests Ahead for Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game panel at D23 2026 on Friday, 14th August, to announce a ton of information about what the future holds for the popular TCG.

New sets, a digital edition, preminum Collector Boosters, extremely rare serialised cards, Visual Guides and Lorebooks, and more, were discussed and revealed during a very packed one hour talk on the Backlot Stage at the Anaheim Convention Center, California.

This year is Disney Lorcana’s third-anniversary, and that wasn’t the only thing Ravensburger and Disney had to celebrate. Elaine Chase, Head of TCGs at Ravensburger opened proceedings with the announcement that over 2.8 billion cards have been sold since the games launch, and that the Ravensburger team are actively planning sets all the way through 2029 and beyond, so Disney Lorcana is certainly not about to be slowing down anytime soon. The panel was about the more near-term future of the game though, with revelations about some of the projects in the pipeline for the rest of this year through to 2027.

Disney Lorcana TCG Goes Digital

Possibly the biggest long-tern announcement came at the end of the event, with news that Disney Lorcana is officially getting a digital version. Ravensburger confirmed that a digital Lorcana platform is currently in development for mobile and desktop, which will allow players to play and complete online.

Few details were revealed, so we don’t currently know a launch date or whether the digital game will mirror physical organised play. Ravensburger have opened up registrations for development updates with possible future opportunities to test the game as it’s development nearers a release date.

All-Foil Collector Boosters Arrive in 2007

Beginning with Into the Inkdark in 2027, every Lorcana set will receive Collector Boosters alongside the game’s existing standard boosters.

Each Collector Booster will contain 12 random premium foil cards, all receiving special foil treatments, while higher-rarity cards will appear more frequently than in normal boosters.

Collector Boosters are deliberately getting limited distribution howeverm with the boosters and display boxes only being sold through Ravensburger Play Hub Stores, the Ravensbuger online store, and selected Disney locations.

Ultra, Ultra Rare Serialised Cards - Only 23 Copies Each!

Wow, where to start with this one. This is a significant announcement for collectors.

Also starting with the Into the Indark set, and only available in the Collector Boosters, will be ‘Illustrious’ cards. These serialised cards will be incredible high-rarity cards. The first revealed example is Maleficent - Biding Her Time, and each Illustrious card is drawn by a notable card artist and gives them an opportunity to “bring their unique style and vision to the table”. These cards will be extravagantly embellished with premium foiling and bespoke accents.

So, just how rare will these be? Only 23 of each card will be printed, and only 6 different Illustrious cards will be available per set. So their will only be 138 of these cards in the entire Into the Inkdark Collector Boosters run. Expect to see these go for silly money on the collectors market.

Into the Inkdark - Set 15

So, I’ve mentioned Into the Inkdark set a couple of times now but haven’t said what it’s all about.

Well, the first set of 2027 is a darker Lorcana release focused heavily on Disney’s villains.

Hades will apparently be central to the set’s storyline, with players attempting to disrupt his plans while exploring a new environment and discovering the mysterious Dark Illuminary. Disney are well aware that plenty of players and fans enjoy the more wicked and dark characters within their worlds, and Into the Inkdark is looking to spotlight a variety of them.

Cosmic Quest Takes Lorcana Into Space

Quarter 2 of 2027 will see Lorcana leave the familiar Inklands behind for Cosmic Quest.

This space-themed set will feature cosmic reinterpretations of Disney characters, with Ariel wearing an astrosuit among the first artwork shown during the panel.

Further details remain scarce, but the announcements suggests that Ravensburger is becoming increasingly willing to push Lorcana’s “glimmer” concept beyondd the recognisable Disney settings and into more radical reinterpretations of familiar characters - which personally I find an interesting and appealing concept.

Hyperia City Introduces Ink Drops This October

Before any of the above arrives, Lorcana’s next major release is Hyperia City, which enters prelease on 16th October 2026.

The city tales its name from Disney’s historic Hyperion Studio and is divided into several distinctive neighbourhoods celebrating individual attributes of various Illumineers and glimmers.

Hyperia City is divided into distinct neighbourhoods celebrating the individual attributes of the various Illumineers and glimmers that can be foun d within its metropolitan landscape. It is a fast-paced and dynamic urban world for gameplay, with glimmers showing off their passions and skills in the form of things like street food or fashion. Concerts, singers, and song cards also bring to life a symphony of sounds.

More importantly for players, Hyperia City introduces a new gameplay resource: Ink Drops.

Ink Drops provide one-use bursts of ink power that can be used by heroes and villains, potentially adding another dimension to Lorcana’s existing ink resource system.

Five new Lorcana cards were also shown during D23: Land of the Dead - Marigold Bridge; Merlin’s Shop and Smithy - Magical Market; Khan Industries - Greenway Landmark; Institute of Technology - Honey Lemon’s Lab; and Khan Stadium - State of the Art.

New character cards include Minnie Mouse - Urban Visionary, Donald Duck - Taxi Driver, and Mickey Mouse - Best in Town, with Mickey also receiving an Enchanted version.

Iconic Disney Princess characters have been reimagined as they explore their passions in their new environment, including several versions of Pepita.

Beauty and the Beast Curator’s Collection

Ravensburger also revealed the next themed Curator’s Collection, following the recently released heroines Edition.

Arriving in October 2027 the Beauty and the Beast Curator’s Collection celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Disney classic. The alternative artwork is inspired by the stained-glass imagery associated with the film.

Six cards were previewed: Be Our Guest, Mrs Potts - Enchanted Teapot, Belle - Hidden Archer, Lumiere - Fiery Friend, Gaston - Intellectual Powerhouse, and Beast - Tragic Hero.

Lorcana - A Visual Guide

1st February 2027 will see the release of Disney Lorcana A Visual Guide Through The Magical Realm . This book, which will include an exclusive Pegasus promotional card, will explore the games lore while reproducing artwork from across multiple Lorcana sets. I have a load of similar books for Magic: The Gathering, showcasing the art from all the cards and providing a deeper dive in the lore behind the sets, and reading the limited info available for this it does sound quite similar. If so, then this will be a fantastic supplement for Lorcana players and Disney fans alike. Looking forward to seeing a copy of this when it comes out.

The panel also spoke about future events, including expanding Lorcana’s presence at Disney’s Parks, and also Disney Cruises. I think you can agree a lot was packed into an hour. I think it’s probably taken me longer to write all of this than it did for them to explain and show it all off at the panel on Friday night!

Hope you found it useful and, like me, are looking forward to seeing some of the announcements come out… now all I need is to find an Illustrious card… or two :p
