Disney Lorcana's 13th Set Introduces the Vine as Its Most Powerful Villain

Attack of the Vine brings us the finale of a year-long story arc in the 13th expansion for Ravensburger’s Disney Lorcana.

Attack of the Vine, the latest booster expansion for Disney Lorcana and the culmination of a year-long storyline, has just had its prerelease and is going on general release on Friday 24th July. Attack of the Vine is the 13th expansion for Ravensburger’s popular Trading Card Game that first debuted back in August 2023.

Disney Lorcana is set in an alternate world where the players take on the mantle of Illumineer, powerful sorcerers who use magical ink to summon ‘Glimmers’ - beings that resemble Disney characters. The aim of the game is to be the first player to collect 20 "‘Lore’ points, in a race against the other players whilst trying to manage your resources.

It’s invasive! Reaching into the sky, the thorny vine sprouts threats of all kinds, from vineling monsters to leafy duplicates of various glimmers. This blooming terror is scary. But why not fight scary with scary?

Attack of the Vine is a 207-card set features characters from films like Monsters, Inc, Up, and Turning Red and is available in 12-card booster packs and the Illumineer’s Trove. Rather than having a classic Disney villain, the Vine is the main antagonist in this set. The Vine captures various glimmers and duplicates them as “Vinelings” to defend its host and aid in its expansion.

The Illumineer’s Trove includes eight booster packs, six damagedice, and a spin-dial lore counter.

Adventure awaits in Lorcana as the realm grapples with the implacable threat of the Vine that’s grown completely out of control,” said Nicole Smith, Senior Narrative Designer at Ravensburger. “Now that the Vine has soaked up all of the magical ink from the flood Illumineers experienced in earlier sets, it’s an extremely powerful adversary that will take a lot of teamwork to thwart.”
Like the adventure stories fans love to watch on the big screen, the artwork for Attack of the Vine! is similarly inspired by cinematic summer blockbuster artwork. There is no better example of this than the Enchanted cards. The two rarest cards, the Iconics, follow suit while sporting additional foil treatments and movie-poster-esque art. Attack of the Vine! is all about teaming up, which is why the set’s Iconic cards are Lilo & Stitch - Fun Loving Friends and Belle & Beast - Certain as the Sun.
Glimmers will have to team up to defeat the vine, and we wanted to show that mechanically with the new ways to Shift using the Team classification,” explained Steve Warner, co-creator of the game and Game Design Director at Ravensburger. “Team allows any character with the same name as one of the characters in the team too act as he shift base. This opens up a lot of options in the Infinity format, as well as providing a lot more options of what to shift on in Core Constructed.”

In addition to the cards two new Set 13 playmat’s are being released along with a new Lorebook Card Portfolio that can hold up to 252 standard cards for Sets 13-16.
