Cohors Cthulhu is now on general release from Modiphius.
Previously funded and fulfilled via Kickstarter, this new roleplaying game brings the Cthulhu Mythos to the Roman Empire. Known as the Hidden Wars, this secret struggle pits Roman legionaries and brave Germanic, Gaulic, and Celtic warriors against ‘nefarious cabals’ such as the Cult of Mormo, minions of Nyarlathotep and Yog-Sothoth, and more. These devious cults ‘wield dark magics and profaned relics’ and owe their allegiance only to the Outer Gods. Worse still, cosmic horrors and classic Mythos creatures including Mi-Go, Deep Ones and more lurk on the periphery of human perception.
Cohors Cthulhu puts the player characters front and centre in this secret battle against the old gods and their minions. These characters hail from all walks of Roman life, and all corners of the Empire. They are aided by secret organisations such as the Fingers of Dawn and the Temperari: these groups offer aid via ‘the secrets of mystic arts and access to the legendary weapons of Atlantis’.
The first two releases in this new range include the 224-page Cohors Cthulhu Player’s Guide; and the 272-page Cohors Cthulhu Gamemaster’s Guide. Both of these are available as PDFs or as hardcover books printed in full-colour. Other releases include a quickstart guide, a Gamesmaster Toolkit, a range of miniatures and various accessories such as dice, tokens and a pad of character sheets.
Future releases for Cohors Cthulhu will include two collections of scenarios.*
See the Modiphius website for more details.
*One of which contains a scenario by [checks notes] a certain Paul L. Mathews…

A dramatic scene depicts a group of diverse characters navigating a dark, ominous landscape reminiscent of ancient Rome. In the foreground, a Roman soldier, a warrior with a spear, and a child holding a torch are seen crossing a stone bridge, while eerie, monstrous figures loom in the background, hinting at the presence of cosmic horrors. The title "Cohors Cthulhu" is prominently displayed at the bottom, along with the subtitle "Adventures in the Roman Empire," emphasizing the game's thematic blend of mythology and historical setting.
