Invincible - Superhero Roleplaying Gets a 30th July Release Date

30th July. Mark your calendars. Not only is it the first day of Gen Con but it’s also the international release date for Free League Publishing’s Invincible - Superhero Roleplaying game, based on the comics created by writer Robert Kirkman and artists Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.

The comics, published by Image Comics between 2003 and 2018, have also been made into a popular Amazon animated series which has run for four seasons so far and has a fifth season currently in production.

The game, which raised almost £300,000 on Kickstarter in October 2025, allows you to take on the role of superheroes in your own corner of the Invincible universe. You can play an established character from the comic, or create your own - so if you ever fancied playing a wisecracking soeedster, a grizzled vigilante, or a shape-shifting alien in one of comics most developed universes now is your chance!

The Invincible universe is filled with everything we love about superhero stories - costumes and capes, epic brawls across cityscapes, sidekicks, team-ups, alien invasions, witty banter, alternate dimensions, and much more - though these familiar elements are often subverted in surprising ways. Any tropes can exist, and any trope can be turned on its head.

In the series, Mark Grayson starts out as a high school student with an ordinary life, except his father Nolan is Omni-Man - the most powerful superhero on the planet. Mark gains powers on his own and becomes Invincible. It’s a dream come true, until he learns that being a superhero isn’t everything trhe comics he read as a kid made it seem.

Mark’s world comes crashing down when Nolan reveals the true nature of his alien Viltrumite heritage and admits to killing the Guardians of the Globe - the world’s top super-team. After a one-sided battle with his father, Mark is left battered and broken. Omni-Man departs Earth and leaves Mark to pick up the pieces. The full story of Mark’s journey of grief, discovery, failure, growth, and triumph is told in a sprawling saga over the course of 144 issues.

The 30th July launch will see five products hit stores (and Gen Con) - the Core Rulebook, Starter Set, GM Screen, Dice Set ,and a set of Power Cards.
