Japon Brand will be joining Fantasy Flight Games, Days of Wonder, Catan Studios, Z-Man Games and many other popular publishing houses as part of the Asmodee family. Alongside the purchase of Japon Brand Asmodee are also launching Nekuma, a new studio dedicated to Japanese games.

Japon Brand was founded in 2006 to showcase local designers and is known for a number of international hits such as Love Letter and Machi Koro. Japon Brand were actually sold to CMON in April 2024, but with CMON’s recent financial troubles they have been selling a number of their games and subsidaries. Asmodee has previously brought a number of CMON titles off them such as Zombicide, Cthulhu Must Die, and most recently Sheriff of Nottingham in February 2026.

“Japon Brand has always aimed to elevate Japanese designers internationally,” said Akio Nomura at Japon Brand. “Joining asmodee gives us greater reach and resources while preserving our core mission: supporting creativity and connecting local designers with global audiences.”

Nekuma has been created as a publishing studio to source high-quality tabletop games from Japanese and Asian designers and support their development, publishing, and distribution in both regional and international markets.
