Games Workshop Preview a Plethora of New Products (Part Three: the Tomb Kings)

As you probably know by now, the workhorses at Games Workshop have been workhorse-ing overtime this past week, showering us as they have with an avalanche of appetizers for upcoming miniatures, games and books.

We’ve already covered the previews for the new Warhammer 40,000 and Leagues of Votann releases, so today we’ll take a look at the new Old World and Age of Sigmar releases. This post will focus on the Old World, and a subsequent post will examine the AoS previews. You down with that? Good.

So, what’s new in the Old World? Well, I’ve got two words for you: ‘Tomb’, and ‘Kings’.

That’s right, Games Workshop have dusted off those dustiest of the undead to bring us a small, but no less exciting, tranche of new undead miniatures.

As is appropriate, these new releases are presaged by the Royal Heralds. Brought to you both mounted and on foot, this pair of cadaverous criers can also be used as as standard bearers and tomb princes.

A pair of intricately designed skeletal riders on horseback, representing the Royal Heralds from the Tomb Kings faction. The riders are adorned with ornate armor featuring gold and colorful accents, while their skeletal horses exhibit detailed bone structures. The base is decorated with grass and small rocks, enhancing the overall presentation of these undead miniatures.

The heralds are accompanied by a pair of Liche Priests. As with the Royal Heralds, this set includes a mounted and dismounted version, both of which can be customised with a variety of heads and, to quote GW’s delightfully vague turn of phrase, ‘numerous other options’.

A skeletal figure mounted on a horse, adorned with ancient armor and vibrant decorative elements, holds a staff topped with a bird skull. The horse features a similarly skeletal appearance, with flowing mane and tail, and is draped in tattered cloth. Accompanying details include a close-up of the figure's ornate headdress and a banner displaying arcane symbols, emphasizing the character's role as a Royal Herald in the undead army.

This mini-release is rounded off with the new Arcane Journal: War of Settra’s Fury. This dusty old tome details not only ‘Settra’s full-scale invasion into the Border Princes and […] the mountain range to the south of Bretonnia’, but also the array of disparate allies which stood in Settra’s way.

Weighing in at 48 pages, this supplement contains not only the lore behind this offensive, but also rules for mountsed Khemrian characters and the incantations of the Mortuary Cult. Those who are more interested in breaking bones than playing with them should also check out the book’s various Armies of Infamy; these include the Dwarfen Slayers and the Border Princes who fought against Settra.
