Swansea, Cheese and Dave Hedgehog: Ugly, Lovely City Gets Its Comic-Pop-Con on
Does Swansea get a bad rap? Dylan Thomas backhandedly called it an "ugly, lovely town" a compliment that works when you're the long dead local poet more famous than the charmingly defiant city itself.
Stars of Time Events are hosting their inaugural Halloween-themed celebration of all things pop this October 26th, at the LC Swansea - featuring the talented people behind Wallace & Gromit, Star Wars, Dr Who, and - crucially - Dave Hedgehog. If that sentence hasn’t made you immediately buy a ticket then you might reading the publication.
Unfamiliar with Welsh geography? (Basically, anyone not already in Wales...), Swansea sits at the western end of the M4, a driveable 190 miles from London and 80 miles from Bristol. When you’re about 45 minutes past Cardiff we recommend a slight detour to get a better look at the inspiration for Ridley Scott's Blade Runner cityscapes - Port Talbot's steel works. Swansea itself is announced via the "splendid-curving" bay, and the LC sits in the Maritime Quarter which is accessible, coastal, and you can even stretch your legs on the Gower Peninsula.
The line-up
The actual human voice of world famous dog and cheese techno-caper - Wallace and Gromit - Ben Whitehead makes his first convention appearance anywhere in the world!
Christopher Ryan (Mike from The Young Ones) a comedy legend who apparently did some Doctor Who too! Who knew?
Tim Dane Reid who’s been in more episodes of Doctor Who than... anyone?
Paul Kasey is only Admiral Raddus from the greatest star wars movie of all time (Rogue One in case you feel like being corrected) and more Doctor Who.
Gloucestershire Geek Society hosts a playable retro gaming area, free lightsaber training runs all day, there's a dedicated quieter hour for a more gentle experience, halloween face painting, cosplay groups, trade stalls, themed photo opportunities and more throughout the day.
If you’ve been looking for an event with interesting guests and activities that don't come with a bill-shock, this is a decent bet. Do you still need persuading? You get to meet Dave Hedgehog! Ask him to show you his trick... on second thoughts...
Swansea Comic Con is on Sunday 26th October at the LC Swansea. Tickets available at starsoftime.co.uk/swanseacomiccon
