Body

The eagle eyed among you may have noticed problems where ampersands (&) were not being correctly displayed. This is now fixed! Join us for more thrilling software update news in this special mid-April edition of ‘Software Update News!’

Typed ampersands were arriving on the page as & and other unspeakable mojibake. Fixed. Apologies to anyone whose punctuation has been quietly mangled since launch; it should now behave itself.

Elsewhere in this release:

  • Reddit and Instagram embeds now render in the social-embed card, joining the existing line-up across articles, events and social posts.

  • There's a new publish requirements card, a checklist on the editing forms that tells you what's still missing before a post can go live, which improves on the previous "guess and click submit" approach.

  • Past events are editable again (with a guard preventing the dread accidental re-publish, courtesy of Jodie), and

  • The portal pages now classify hero images and pick layouts appropriate to the images to stop your beautiful artwork being randomly cropped and looking like crap Kodak moments from the 80s.

Bug Squashing:

  • Post Preview tab is back from the dead

  • Namespace toggle is now hidden from anyone who shouldn't be touching it

  • Role-aware defaults apply when creating posts

  • The event form has been improved to be less of a hindrance
