Mage Hand Press are preparing to launch Dark Matter on Kickstarter.
Described as is a ‘430+ page […] sci-fantasy campaign setting that launches your D&D 5E game into space’ this forthcoming publication invites players to ‘explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy [and] launch into epic, collaborative starship battles against space pirates, cosmic dragons, and terrifying alien creatures’.
In the finest traditions of Star Wars, Masters of the Universe et al, Dark Matter meshes fantasy and science fiction to create the ‘Verse. Here ‘an axe-wielding barbarian or a machine-gun toting android’ can explore the galaxy side-by-side with ‘Wizards and power-armored space commandos’.
Dark Matter also promises to not only introduce new playable species and a bounty of new subclasses, but also the Gadgeteer class. These are not only masters of engineering and technology, but they enjoy the benefits of AI companions and ‘a mass of Gadgets’.
Of course, every epic space opera crew needs a flashy spaceship or a knackered old freighter, and Dark Matter will allow players to build and customize their own ships, be they ‘a rust-bucket jalopy or a cutting-edge cruiser’.
Dark Matter launches February 3rd, 2026. See the Kickstarter preview for more details.
