Welcome to 1935 and the height of the Art Deco period. The world has fallen in love with a new mineral, Marineiun, which is used in medicine, technology, and the world's most sought-after luxury items. This mineral is only found growing in coral-like structures on the seafloor. With all its benefits, it has a darker side: it mutates biological material it spends prolonged time in contact with!

In Fathom, players will create Dive Teams comprised of three models: a Dive Master, First Mate, and Dive Specialist. Players will send their Dive Teams to the seafloor in their team’s Diving Bell. Once deployed, players will have to salvage Marineium deposits and return them to their Diving Bell.

Fathom uses the Cost of Success system. When models activate within their Dive Suit’s weight class, they will have four actions to spend. When an action requires a skill test, players will roll a pool of Hazard Dice. The more Hazard symbols rolled, the greater the Cost of Success. Players will have to choose between degrading the Integrity of their model’s Dive Suits and Items and/or resolving the action’s special Cost of Success! Players may always choose to have their model fail the action, thus not incurring the Cost of Success, but the action fails, and the model’s activation ends immediately.

Players will also have the opportunity to activate mutated Deep Sea Threats. These range from the Marineium-infused dead that roam the seafloor to giant squids! Defeating these threats will grant even more opportunities to secure valuable Marineium.

When a Dive Team returns to the surface, they can sell their salvaged Marineium for Shares that can be spent on Dive Suits, Items, and Upgrades for their Diving Bell.

Do you have what it takes to descend to the seafloor, leaving a life of luxury behind, in order to secure the world’s hottest new resource?
