Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton Team Up For New Board Game Series

For many tabletop gamers, the words "Wil Wheaton's TableTop" evoke a wave of nostalgia. The Geek & Sundry series introduced countless viewers to the modern board gaming hobby, helping transform titles such as Ticket to Ride, Tsuro, Small World and Pandemic into household names among gamers. The so-called "Wheaton Effect" even became shorthand for the dramatic boost in sales that often followed a game's appearance on the show.

Now, nearly a decade after TableTop came to an end, Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day are returning to the gaming table with CONLUDO, a brand-new board gaming series announced as part of the hugely successful Kickstarter campaign for The Guild: Ren Faire'd.

Rather than simply recreating the format of TableTop, CONLUDO takes a more conversational approach. Each episode begins with Day and Wheaton discussing a shared passion - whether that's books, films, memorable meals or another geeky obsession - before playing a board game. Friends and special guests then join them around the table to be taught and play the episodes game of choice.

The title, derived from the Latin for "play together," perfectly captures the spirit of the project. According to Day, the series is designed to celebrate creators, the tabletop community and the simple joy of gathering friends around a game.

CONLUDO is being unlocked through stretch goals on The Guild: Ren Faire'dKickstarter, with the first episode funded at the $4.6 million mark and additional episodes unlocked with every additional $100,000 until ten episodes have been funded, making up the first run of CONLUDO. Given the extraordinary success of the crowdfunding campaign it’s very likely that many, if not all, of the planned episodes will make it to the screen.

For board gamers, and the industry, the announcement represents more than just another YouTube series. TableTop played a pivotal role in the hobby's explosive growth during the 2010s, introducing modern designer games to audiences far beyond traditional gaming circles. If CONLUDO can capture even a fraction of that magic while showcasing today's thriving independent tabletop scene, it could once again become essential viewing for gamers everywhere and a show for retailers to try and stock-up on of the games being covered.
